And i was pissed as hell and couldn't find a better section ffs - how would you react coming back after a few years and noticing that someone else is posting in your name?!

I came back to this board and thought my username got deleted because i couldn't figure out my password and recovery didn't recognize my email - turns out someone else is using my account, not sure how but is there any way to recover it?

First you need to move your thread here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0
Then if you post/signed any address before you get hacked you should sign a message from that address and follow these instructions: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/recovering-hacked-accounts-or-accounts-with-lost-passwords-497545
This is only way you can get your account back,but you need provide proof(sign message) and have patience.
