I misspoke, 15 character password + checksum. The version of Mycelium I used gave me that instead of a master seed?
...
1) I created the wallet in Mycellium v 2.8.12. I don't remember when I added the HD wallet, but it has all my BTC and I only have backup information for the single address, in 15 character + checksum form
Ahhhh ok, you've got the "encrypted PDF Backup" which is the Legacy backup for Single Address accounts... it's a 15 character password + 1 character checksum. That, unfortunately, is completely useless to you for recovering your Mycelium HD account. Undecided Sad

The password simply allows you to unlock the encrypted PDF file.

My phone is not rooted. I have looked into doing so at this point to recover my pin, but I'm afraid of corrupting the data. I don't have a 15 word master seed anywhere Sad I still have access to the phone, and am continually trying pin #s. It takes a little big longer for each successive attempt, and currently i'm at about 3 hours of waiting to find out if my pin attempt is valid or not...

2) I hvae a samsung SM-g928V running android v 7.0
3) smartphone is not rooted, and some googling indicated that my phone (verizon s6 edge) cannot be rooted easily
Rooting your phone is probably not going to help, as most rooting procedures require unlocking of bootloaders, which generally wipes the device as a security measure... Additionally, "recent" Samsung phones have been notoriously difficult to root and have issues with "Knox" etc... Undecided

I'm sorry to say, but at this point, unless you can figure out the PIN, your chances of recovery are close to zero Undecided

I have an older wallet which does not have a 12 word master seed, but does have a 15 word password.

Can you elaborate?

What do you mean with "15 word password" ?
Do you actually have a mnemonic code with 15 words? Because, they exist.

Do you remember where or how you actually got the 15 words?

My wallet was a single address + HD account (which contains my btc) . I am able to recover the actual single address, but don't know how to access the HD account that was associated with it...

The HD account is not associated with your "single address account".
They are completely seperate.

The "single address account" is simply a private key stored in mycelium and the HD account is a seed from which all private keys are derived.

You need the mnemonic code to access your coins (which might even be the 15 words).

I have read that all I need to do is recover the wallet and then add a new HD wallet and it should get discovered.

This is the case when someone has had a second HD account which also is derived from the same mnemonic / seed.
Then simply adding another account will resolve the "my 2nd account is missing" problem.

But since your mycelium wallet only contained 1 HD account, it is the "first" one which is missing.

Could you please answer:
  • Where did you initially create the wallet (15 words  Huh) ?
  • What operating system version is running on your mobile?
  • Is your smartphone rooted?

15 word password? I'm confused... is this a 15 word seed mnemonic (if so, where did it come from? blockchain.com?) or just a password that you used for accessing the wallet file? Huh

If you don't have the "12 word seed", then you will be unable to recover your HD wallet as your HD wallet (and all the "accounts") is derived from a seed which is derived from the 12 word mnemonic.

The "Single Address" account is completely unrelated and of no use to recovering your HD wallet...

How do I recover my btc?
You need the 12 word seed mnemonic... (or the PIN and your original installation.) Undecided

I have seen many permutations of this question asked, but was unable to find any resolution for my specific issue. I have an older wallet which does not have a 12 word master seed, but does have a 15 word password. I lost my pin to the original installation. I am attempting to recover my wallet in a new installation. My wallet was a single address + HD account (which contains my btc) . I am able to recover the actual single address, but don't know how to access the HD account that was associated with it... I have read that all I need to do is recover the wallet and then add a new HD wallet and it should get discovered. The problem is that mycelium won't let me recover the wallet directly because I don't have master seed, and have to create a new address (HD wallet), then scan my encrypted private key and recover the single address. When I try to add a new address at that point, I am told that I can't because i already have an unused HD account. I tried transferring a small amount of BTC to that one then adding a new HD account, but the new HD  is not the correct one. I tried to delete/archive the HD account so that the single address is the only account, and then add it, but I get an error saying there has to be at least 1 active account... ignoring the SA account I already recovered... How do I recover my btc?
