UPDATE:

I managed to speak with someone at BitFunder and they said they would do what they can to restore the deleted info on BitFunder.

Secondly, a message from Ian Bakewell has been received and will (should be) posted on the 19th or 20th. I have no other details.

I think we should wait until we have the un-deleted asset information and can read the message from Ian. I have posted this info in the "Action Proposal" thread in the Securities forum as well.

edit:

A message from Ian? Interesting, but why not post it now? Another delay tactic it seems.

I wasn't sure it was ok to post. Ukyo is away now.

He said it was OK to post this (emphasis mine):

[10:55] <@Ukto> i was sent a txt msg about bakewell
[10:55] <@Ukto> i dont have access to forums atm
[10:56] <@Ukto> since i am out and about and dont have my pass
[10:56] <@Ukto> i only very quickly looked at the threds
[10:56] <@Ukto> not sure what people are wanting
[10:56] <@Ukto> but Ian did freeze the asset
[10:56] <@Ukto> or request it
[10:56] <@Ukto> cant rememebr
[10:56] <@Ukto> and sent a skype saying that he will handle shareholders privately
[10:56] <@Ukto> i would post the skype, but skype apparently only logs to local client
[10:57] <@Ukto> so i will have to post it when i get back
[10:57] <@Ukto> And yes, i can repost the details page when i get back
[10:57] <@Ukto> useres shares should still be listed normally on bf
[10:57] <@Ukto> even if ian were to destroy them, i have backups
[10:58] <@Ukto> as for teh stuff with avalon, thats beyond me.
[10:58] <@Ukto> I have no say, or anything in the matter
[10:58] <@Ukto> all i can do is provide the list of shareholders (which should stay publicly available)
[10:59] <@Ukto> just saw where strello said that ppl have been asking for mefor Huh for bakewell since apr 2nd, i am not sure what is being asked for, and apparently missed smoething
[10:59] <@Ukto> This week is very very busy, with somet big news.
[10:59] <@Ukto> i hope people will understand when announcements are made.
[11:00] <@Ukto> umm, i think that about sums up bakewell best i can atm
[11:00] <@Ukto> feel free to quote this into the thread if you want Smiley
[11:00] <@Ukto> I will do what i can, that is reasonably within my powers.
[11:01] <@Ukto> Restoring deleted descriptions, etc
[11:05] thanks
[11:05] Some of the posters online are upset but I told them it really had nothing to do with you
[11:06] I mean there's not much you can do, but it's great that ian said he would handle his shareholders.
[11:06] Maybe it won't be a total loss :/
[11:14] <@Ukto> yes, once I get back in town I will post the quote from skype immediately.
[11:15] <@Ukto> will be about 2 days

I happpen to know Ian Bakewell works in the Alberta oilfields. There isn't much infrastructure out there.

Not really true, depends where you are.

I'm in a camp of 800 people, got (capped) fibre optic internet, 40" flatscreen cable tv, a gym, basketball/volleyball court, arcade, theatre, 2 hockey rinks, baseball diamond (in summer)

Pretty sure Ian is on the run, or at least changed as much of the public info about him as possible and laying VERY low.

the price of bitcoin continues to rise or stabilizes at $90

Hell, if any one of us knew BTC would be over $100 in a couple months, would you have borrowed @ $30?

Nope.

Though, I hope he realizes that the more a BTC is worth, the more incentives we have to get it back.

I'm pretty sure that if Ian comes clean, many people here will consent to a settlement. If he runs and is tagged a scammer then when people go after him they will probably want the full amount or more.

This is what I'm saying as well. I'm more than willing to negotiate for a settlement since I understand the position he's in. He should just come clean and let us know what's up.

According to his payout schedule at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/closed-146689 he only owes ~BTC86 or ~$8,000. If the price of bitcoin crashes in the next few weeks then he could still be OK and come out of this ahead. If the price of bitcoin continues to rise or stabilizes at $90 then we will never see or hear from Ian again.

The best part? He brags about being short in his signature.

Which is not to say I'm by any means confident his fiat-denominated business opportunity is going to make enough profit to justify/afford taking out BTC-denominated loans to pay for it.

Well it's pretty obvious by now Ian has fucked up royally and owes a lot of people a lot of money. We're talking $100k here. He probably has half, if that.

I'm pretty sure that if Ian comes clean, many people here will consent to a settlement. If he runs and is tagged a scammer then when people go after him they will probably want the full amount or more.

Silly thing is the reason he wanted the loans (which he explained) was one where it was very likely (almost inevitable) that he'd not be around much for the next few weeks (a business opportunity which involved him doing some carpentry work for farming friends).

When someone:

Will likely not be around much if they're telling the truth.
May not be around much if they're lieing/scamming.

Then when they aren't around much it is NOT evidence of scamming.  That something is compatible with a theory does NOT, of itself, make it evidence in favour of that theory.  Bayes theorem etc.

In fact the timing of his absence logically tends towards it being evidence of him NOT scamming - as were he scamming he'd surely be trying to beg/borrow/steal more right up until he got a scammer tag (or at a minimum until the first payment due date on BTCJam).  Not vanishing and leaving money on the table - that's what someone who had some other business to take care off does.

Which is not to say I'm by any means confident his fiat-denominated business opportunity is going to make enough profit to justify/afford taking out BTC-denominated loans to pay for it.

He hasn't replied on Skype, email or answered any calls on his phone.
It doesn't matter what we think of him, this indicates that he's a scammer. We'll definitely know on the 29th.

This constant contact policy, seriously...

What if he fell off his horse, broke a leg, is in the hospital? Let me illustrate this point for you:

Quote
Feb 20 00:26:30    can I ask who smickles is? he gets a lot of ";;seen"
Feb 23 01:35:50    has smickles been found?
Mar 01 01:23:01    any smickles these days?
Mar 01 01:23:02    yes you do
Mar 01 01:23:11    ;;seen smickles
Mar 01 01:23:11    smickles was last seen in #bitcoin-assets 2 weeks, 5 days, 21 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds ago: pong
Mar 01 01:23:40    nope smickles has been awol.
Mar 01 01:47:29    has anyone tried calling smickles?

Guy had some shit to do for a couple of weeks. It happens.

But, you don't have to be in the dark for that long, it's our money and we deserve to know what's going on. Here's his information (which he provided or was publicly available) to contact him.

Pretty sure you misread the thread.  Read it again.  No payment is due as described in that thread for another few weeks.

Which doesn't mean he's not scamming - but does mean that there's no evidence of it (if he has).

The BTCjam loan was due on the 5th. I know he had different terms for the 600 BTC loan but the BTCjam thing is what is confusing me.

Pretty sure he's operating the BTCjam loan as per his schedule in the thread.  BTCjam loans are always horribly unclear anyway - there's plenty of examples of repayment terms ending up not being what the borrower thought they'd specified.

Don't get me wrong - I reckon there's a significant chance he's doing/done a hit and run : but the debatably late payment on BTCJam isn't an issue due to his intended payment schedule having been published well in advance on the BTCJam listing even being created.  Plus the stated purpose/use for the loan (as described from him in various places) isn't such that it would make sense for him to make repayments right away.

I wouldn't personally have loaned him anything on the information available when he was borrowing all over the place.  But nothing has changed since then to make the risk of scam any different.

The BTCjam loan was due on the 5th. I didn't see anything regarding this on his thread. I'm just looking to see if there's any solid info on the BTCjam loan since he hasn't logged on since the 3rd.

Ian Bakewell hasn't been on the forums for a week, and is now days late on first payments of a 600btc loan from the lending forum, and a 300 BTC loan on BTCjam.

He also borrowed at least 30,000 shares of S.DICE from TradeFortress and possibly other securities and loans from other people.

I don't think Ian is a scammer (yet) but this is now a lot of money we're talking about, we're talking $40,000 or $50,000 here, or more. So why am I posting this here? Because there's no where else to post it, he locked his loan thread and apparently hasn't logged on in a week anyways.

I don't like the missed payments. Does anyone know what is going on?

Info seems to be here:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1145458

I highly doubt he's run off I'm just looking to see if anyone has seen or heard from him since the 3rd, since he hasn't logged on since then.

I highly doubt he's run off as he's been very quick to identify himself of his own accord. I'm just looking to see if anyone has seen or heard from him since the 3rd, since he hasn't logged on since then.
