I've made it really simple for myself when I'm in doubt if an ICO is legit or not.  A lot of projects don't have a public team: stay away from those.
If they have a team but you can't find any information about them, I tend to ask them straight forward:

"Who is your team and where can we find information about their relevant experience prior to the launch of your ICO?"

If they start avoiding that question with:

- We are focused on progress
- Wait for the launch of our platform
- We will make a youtube video soon
- We answered that question many times (but they didn't)
- All the info is on our site
-etc

That means they have something to hide.  Stay away!  For a team that is ASKING your money, it takes NO time to just give the names and linkedind of their team.  If they don't want to give that information, you know enough: stay away...
