I think what they meant is they tacked on an artificial price to these Reddit coins and are expecting buyers to honor that price, which shows how naive they are. If the people at Reddit are smart they will use one or two of the existing Bitcoin 2.0 technologies (like MasterCoin) to issue their securities. It would save them a lot of work and cost. And they'd possibly get a bigger capital inflow from the Bitcoin community as well.
Whether they do it or not, I think it adds credibility to the usefullness of cryptocurrencies.
