Saying thank or not doesn't make any difference. I know you are a newbie and may not really get it. One of the best ways to say thank you is to in my opinion help other newbies answer their questions and give them proper directions wherever you can. It would make the forum a better place.

Do not let anyone mount pressure on you to tell you that you need to send merits to a user as a way of saying thanks. We don't really care for all these things because either way merits will come when someone finds value in what you write.

Please stop replying each post individually
Thanking someone personally is what almost all users do. I did it alot in my newbie days. Even till now I do it. If I don't have merit  to reward a post that help me, I will say thanks. Some times, it could be a 1 line thanks or below a post by quoting it.

Newbies coming from the background of social media will always suggest things like facebook likes which I did also when I was a newbie. But when they grow into the system, they will understand that this system although is not close to perfect but is not also bad. By then, they will stop trying to suggest many changes to the forum.
I don't think op deserve any insult because he does not understand how the forum works. We should always easily correct people especially when they do not understand how the system works. Some persons were advising op to give out merit as a means of saying thank you. How would someone that do not have merit nor understand how the merit system works to give merit? That should be so because the forum is seen like a regular social media when people come and enquire about something, if they get answer to there enquiry, thank you would be the compliment not sharing merit just like the person opinion I saw on this thread.
I must say that I appreciate this advice, many are in the forum who are not just considerate as you do not know the mental health of the person you are talking to. This is why I like to be calm in some situations so that I will not regret my actions eventually. Although the OP is kinda rude too, the way he propagated the message is just as if he was blackmailing the forum management. If I must ask, who can he blackmail? Just as I advised him in my first reply, I told him that if he made his threat good, it was only the fastest way to completely get banned from the forum.

For Christ's sake, this is not a normal social media platform or any other forum that will enable the "Thanks/Likes" button as he wanted. And since he is not the first or the last to register here, he must admit and obey the rules of the forum. Peradventure he can't obey it, there is nothing wrong in excusing himself from the forum if our deeds don't tally with his. That is civil enough.

What's with the search limit, I'm a regul;ar user not a bot,
got this   You are searching too quickly. Wait 90 seconds. (There is a Google-based search engine on the search page that does not have this limit.)

So I waited 90 seconds, searched again, didnt find anything on the page so I clicked next page and I get the saMe message again,
all i dfid was click the next button.
You'll have to wait if you wanna use the forums search engine. It's not that great. Instead use the google based search engine. It doesn't have any time limits.

Edit: You won't get any results that are outside of Bitcointalk. For example if you searched "Facebook",  it won't show up. It will only show links related to Bitcointalk.

I'd actually appreciate thanks button. Often, I come across posts that deserves merit, but then again I deplete sMerit as soon as I earn it. Sometimes, I write post links in to-do list to merit later, but quite fed up with to-do lists lately as they make me dwell upon past than present.

Good if Bitcointalk could have 'thanks' without any perks. Just use it to say thanks.
I highly doubt theymos would implement it. Already there are tons of proposal/improvement/patches that are still pending waiting for his approval. Just look at the 2FA features. People have been asking for it for years and now after many years we got it. So I guess, OP have to wait long to get something as the "thanks" button.

If OP's really new in the forum it's a process he'll learn like we did. He'll ask questions to understand what's the way here. The problem's happen when ppl who aren't newbies ask questions. How many ppl don't know how merits work. If they've found the forum they've studied what's going on before they've registered.

Some people don't have any idea how the Forum works until they might have stayed for some days browsing through the Forum, while some have already gotten the tips on how the Forum works but still they ask questions about the Forum like they don't know. Some don't know if there's anything like merit and when they finally get one they start asking questions about it. So I don't think we need to blame some members who ask questions about how the merit system works.

Merit is used as thanks but it has limits. Thanks button would be different and limitless. I don't think it's really important, if it existed I would use it but since it doesn't exist, I don't feel the lack of it. About emoticons, I don't think we should turn this place into facebook or other social media. I know these kind of forums that try to have all features in it, that's only confusing to new people. I prefer simple machines forum as simple as possible. Smiley

Having the Forum to be the way we are seeing it is better than including those features and it will make the Forum to be some how unserious. The Forum shouldn't be seen as a place people come and exchange messages and all that (like Facebook or Instagram etc). Is best for new users to take this place to be a very serious place, a place where no nonsense is taken. Let the merit serve as a like button before we start hearing suggestions like, let the Forum have a share button too.

If there's no merit I feel that's when you should be asking or suggesting of such, for now merit can be used to show you appreciate the users post or information given to the public.
What about in a situation whereby the user has no available merit to say thank you?, but really needs to express his/her feelings about what the member has done without having to write thank you, And such a scenario usually happens when someone has provided us with the very answers we needed. Using a like feature when we run out of merit would make sense if added and thus spicing up the forum a bit with a new feature “like button” though this is not something I would say is very important right now, but it is a feature that could be considered in the future.

If the user doesn't have any sMerit then let that user improvise, it mustn't be all about merit, the user can use words to show how useful the information is to him or her and maybe later the user can drop the merit anytime.
To me adding of those thank you features or like button would make this Forum look a little bit childish, it will look like a play ground. Is best to have the Forum to be the way it is now, adding those features is a no no for me.

The best way to say thank you is to merit the person's post, and that's it.
This applies only to those users who have already been rewarded with merit earlier. Merit-sources are an exception.

But more often than not, newcomers have no merit so that they can give thanks using this. They can only do it mentally (thanking). Smiley

Otherwise i would keep spamming the forum thanking them for the post
Have nothing to do? Posts that deserve gratitude (and merit) will find their thanks. They will be other forum users. You don't have to do this yourself.

Otherwise i would keep spamming the forum thanking them for the post

Certainly, you can go ahead and do that, but the outcomes won't be what you expect. Spamming the forum can lead to negative tags or more serious consequences. I'm curious about your thought process before creating this thread. If you intended to suggest a thank-you button, it would have been better to create a more professional thread. The forum already has a merit system that serves the same purpose as a thank you. When you contribute with helpful posts or replies, other members with sendable merit may thank you by sending some your way. Focus on earning merits and avoid creating spammy posts.

The "thank you" button is only commonly used on social media and some forums also apply it but we already have a "merit system" in my opinion if there is anything better than this, in other forums, they apply "karma" instead of the like button or thank you.

Hi OP, what's the benefit of creating an account but in the end your account is banned because of inappropriate actions and this time continuous spam is something that is difficult to forgive, I haven't included you in my 'ignore list', but if I continue If you spam, don't be surprised if your account ends up being banned.

In my understanding, "thank you" is best said through appreciation. Let's say, for instance, you want to say thank you, by just typing the words, it's not really felt and then it just appears like the regular cliche but when you show appreciation, that's a whole new level.

Appreciation can be shown, in this forum, by awarding merits to the particular post of interest, or increasing rewards, or adding bonus points. All of these are better ways of saying thank you than just typing the words.

The best way to say thank you is to merit the person's post, and that's it.

If you keep spamming the comment section, you can either get tagged or get your account banned, and then you might no longer be allowed to do anything.
Meriting is a sign of appreciation. But if you are still in the process of earning merits, then a simple thank you is enough. You don't have to spam the forum because that is violating the rule already. And you would not want to be out in the forum when you still have high motivation to learn.

However, if you have gained enough merits to share, then the fact that you appreciate one's post or idea, then meriting the user is the best response.

On the whole I would generally agree with this. However, when you have newbie accounts created and operated by experienced members to push forward an agenda under the guise of newbies asking questions innocently because they find certain features difficult or making suggestions to improve the forum (or something else), I do not have sympathy nor compassion for them.

By far most of the real newbies posting in the forum already have researched subjects such as merits and posts.

As a newbie you might find the use of certain features in the forum difficult for now but with time you will come to appreciate their usefulness and purpose, making provisions for a like button to posts/comments would make the forum look like one of those social media platforms like Facebook where everything goes with a like(s).

To add another point:

Being on x.com for a while i notice a different view of posting messages online.

i have used forums a lot so the rules are almost embedded in my brain now, but i dont want that. thats not me.

so now that i post here, i feel that a lot of rules are just strict. very strict. why?

In each countries you may be privileged nto go, they have their own rules, accept ours here as it is and enjoy thesame or even more exciting moments from bitcointalk, disobey the rules and ended the whole journey as quick as possible, now the decision lies in your hands, if there's no rules then there's no sin.

What's the point of following orders when we fight for a cyberpunk coin?

shouldnt we destroy this forum?

You're talking here in parables, why bot come out straight on whom your target is and that you're addressing this at, am sure you're hiding under without using your main account to be saying these.

And by destroying i would much rather let it grow and improve for other people to use.

Just as someone would always thought about destroying the entire world by building a nuclear weapon, but later to consider how his family would have been also affected and how he cannot leave the whole world alone, then change his decision.

I'm in support of what OP is advocating. I guess this same thought has been expressed somewhere in the forum but in different guise. Creating a "Thank You" or "Like" feature shouldn't be a problem for theymos or any of the creatives we've here with theymos' permission. Sometimes we have the need to thank a user for their meaningful contributions to us but lack the equivalent of such expression in merit. We don't always have merit to express such gratitude and a feature like that should be fine to do that job.

maybe what you intend saying is that it would be better if thumbs up or sort of a like button be added such that it a particular reply goes well with you, you can just like it without necessarily making a statement that might be considered spam and if thats what you want to say, I totally agree with you.

Their are other Interaction that if added to this site will make a whole lot of sense and I hope with time a proper review would be done and an improvement made to enable better user experience.

OP you're talking about a thank you button to be introduced why not ask for a like button because a like button would be better than a thank you button. If there's no merit I feel that's when you should be asking or suggesting of such, for now merit can be used to show you appreciate the users post or information given to the public.

And again you have to be careful and read the caution sign by members asking you to use the INSERT QUOTE other than commenting the way you're doing, or wait for someone to say something before you flood the thread with your comment like you're alone.

The suggestion for a Thanks button is not bad. But the threat you have given to the forum moderation is ridiculous. haha.
There indeed was for members to thank someone which is merit. But if you are a newbie with no sMerit, you can still post thanks in a thread. As long as you are not doing it in every thread you read, it should be okay.

Let's say I suggested you thank them and now you started to post Thanks in every thread, this will be considered spam and that does not make sense at all. There are a lot of forum members. If they can follow the forum rules, you can do it too. If the forum admin adds such a button, it won't harm anyone. But, I highly doubt theymos will do something like that.

Kindly respect the rules and members of the community because being disrespectful won't help you or anyone else. If you want the admins and staff to add new features then you should ask for that in a proper way rather than using such low-value words in your posts.

Sometimes it takes a lot of time to add new features because the admins and staff are busy doing other things in their life as well and that's why a mature person should allow them to have some time and see the response of the community about a feature. And, when they get sure that it's necessary to add new features then they will try their best to add it.

You're suggestion is great to avoid spam but what you doing is not allowed read this below

32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

You should next time learn how to use insert quotes and edit your post because it's considered spam.

And I don't think it's a good idea to add a thanks button I'm sure there are many scammer who will abuse this to make their thread/post look legit.
with all due respect, I don't know what exactly op is thinking by considering the use of a thanks button when there's a merit system that is on ground and running. As cheap as a thanks button could be if used it would also be enormously abused and less valued.

As a newbie you might find the use of certain features in the forum difficult for now but with time you will come to appreciate their usefulness and purpose, making provisions for a like button to posts/comments would make the forum look like one of those social media platforms like Facebook where everything goes with a like(s).

I only see this as blackmail, you don't force any administration to do a thing threatening you will disobey the rule, you will only get yourself kicked out faster than you thought.

You better read the rules of the forum and follow them. Just like the people I read their replies had advised you, so be it. The Thank button you are seeking is the same as the Merit here, and that's final. What you don't know is that for you to get a Merit, you will have quality post(s) to earn it. By that, it will be somewhat sure that you are not just Thanking anyone and abusing it.

This is not Instagram where people like everything including Junkies.

You could thank everyone with a more meaningful way. Or thank everyone with only one comment. It's not that one has to quote separately, and thank everyone one by one. Also, it's not mandatory that you have to thank anyone. It's not required. But if you think, thanking that person who helped you is the least you should, just merit that person. That's it. He'll understand.

For example, suppose you have a proposal/question/confusion regarding some topics. Create the topics and wait a couple of hours. You'll see tons of comments coming regarding your question. Then if you think all of those suggestion/comments satisfy your hunger, then simply make a comment thanking everyone, maybe merit the most useful ones, and (if you wait then), lock the topic.  Wink

@Op, you are a newbie, first you need to read the forum rules so you'll not violate it, then you can make suggestions.
Is he really though? He strikes me as an old timer who is not so bold to use his main account to make this suggest and instead decided to use this one. I don't really buy the idea of adding a "thank you" button or more emoticons cause it's simply going to clutter the space somewhat. These emojis should serve your purpose and if it's not enough, probably you add a gif. Like the others have said, if you feel moved to thank a user for an insight he must have shared for you or helped you out, maybe you merit the person or if you're out, you can decide to give when next you have.

He was caught by @BitMaxz violating one of the forum rules by "Posting multiple posts in a row ".. So it's obvious that he didn't read the forum rules. That's my suggestion for all newbies, read the forum rules before posting, whether you want to ask questions or suggest something.

Oh for god's sake! You know something, f** the rules!

You've got hundreds of spammers doing quote pyramids of 20 levels with gibberish quota posting garbage, you got scammers opening hundreds censored topics, the forum is already losing users and now, the majestic rule, ban and tag a newbie for not using quote and post two times in a row.
And some wonder why don't we have any organic new users other that merit fishing alts!

But no, be my guest, keep imposing those, so we can have 100 people in a topic replying the same non-sense about following the rules and making their quota while banning some newbie for not knowing it's a act of defiance to the god of the universe to post two times in a row. BS!

Don't you think keep thanking people could result to ban?
I can't see any reason why you would keep saying thank you over times, however, lot of this topics has been discussed about emojis' so i think you just need to do little research to finds out those threads insteads of keep spamming the entire board or topics with thinks notes. Be wise otherwise you might ends up being banned entire because I believes you are just coming so you should learned to be more familiar with the forum configuration instead of wanting you to change they system to suit your standard, there are other people who has met this forum this way and has learned to follow it and get used to it.

Oh no, don't we also need a birth certificate, a sperm sample and a fully KYC account here to make suggestion or ask questions?

He was caught by @BitMaxz violating one of the forum rules by "Posting multiple posts in a row ".. So it's obvious that he didn't read the forum rules. That's my suggestion for all newbies, read the forum rules before posting, whether you want to ask questions or suggest something.

so now that i post here, i feel that a lot of rules are just strict. very strict. why?

What specific rules are you talking about? Unlike you, I find this forum to have the most liberal rules out of any online forum community I've been a part of, and I've been on quite a few. I think the mods here are pretty cool and laid-back.

What's the point of following orders when we fight for a cyberpunk coin?

Because otherwise, we would have anarchy. And we don't want that, do we?

This topic has been discussed multiple times here in the meta section. One possible reason of no thanks button is the existing merit system, allowing users to send merit for helpful or meaningful posts. This merit system encourages quality contributions by rewarding users with merits. If you find a post valuable you can acknowledge it by sending merit and once you've received a merit yourself, you can start contributing in the same way. It's a cycle that promotes a positive and informative community.

The best way to say thank you is to merit the person's post, and that's it.

If you keep spamming the comment section, you can either get tagged or get your account banned, and then you might no longer be allowed to do anything.

Sorry but this is stupid.

We have an newbie who comes here for the first time and want only an answer, he gets it and has no merit to send obviously, what can he do, just make a new post thanking the guys who answered his question and go away, a thank you button would solve the extra messages as well as the bumping since a lot will reply seeing the topic is bumped and not checking it was actually solved.

As for the ban and tag, common, be serious, you haven't tagged a single account on this forum, so how did you get to this conclusion?
Do you have an example of a guy being banned and tagged for replying ten times in his own topics for thank you post?

when i like a post i could see it in my account history and it also makes easier read when a post has 20 likes, maybe something important has been said etc.

Just put it on your browser bookmark to easily have access on it. I usually do this on my google browser to collect all the useful thread and replies here. I just login my google account on my browser so that my bookmark will sync on all browser in different devices that login my google account.

Your suggestion is not bad but we already have merit system here acknowledged post that deserves much attention.

More added features will only make it more complicated. I'd rather see this forum stay simple. I think the "thank you button" isn't necessary anymore. As what @Nwada001 have commented,  a merit is already enough to say thank you.

This is a big forum, and if you explored well, you'll see some useful threads that are full of merits, that's  coming from the members saying thank you the information shared by OP. You idea is appreciated but let's keep this forum simple.

It's not necessary to have thanks button, you can thank anyone by quoting all the posts (if you want) in one post, that's totally fine.

If you keep spamming the comment section, you can either get tagged or get your account banned, and then you might no longer be allowed to do anything.
That's not going to happen, red tagged someone because of spam isn't appropriate, neutral tag isn't necessary too in this case. There's a rule if you joined signature campaign and spam, you will get temporary banned. But there are many signature spammers and they're not get banned, while @OP isn't even wear paid signature.

The best way to say thank you is to merit the person's post, and that's it.
I think he is talking about himself and he has no merit. There are sometimes a newbie will thank the user that gives answer to his question and moderators will not do anything about it as long as the person do not turn it to spam.

But it is good to know that you do not have to thank anyone on this forum unnecessarily. But if you ask a question and your question is answered perfectly, you can thank the person that provide the solution if you do not have merit to give.
