~snip~

I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure OP can remove his own posts too by temporarily moving the topic to another board. That's how I remove posts from my threads in Archival.
Ah! if you can do that then it's surely something the smf developers missed to look on. I hope the abusers are not too cleaver like you to use this trick :-P
But thank you for giving up this knowledge :-D

Why deleting post that has last long more than 24hrs. Whereby so many people has read and commented on it. I think the OP can't delete it rather it can only be removed by the moderator

In fact, sometimes we makes mistake and wants to delete our post right away but can't and have to wait 24 hours.
I don't see clear reason why we have to wait so long?
It will be much more simple really just to delete post we made by mistake and move on.

If the OP of a self moderated thread can delete others' posts within 24 hours in marketplace threads, this would be a flaw. Although if someone was using alt accounts to bump spam their own self moderated threads, the thread would show many deleted posts, which should raise suspicions.
I haven't seen this being abused yet.

Not your keys, not your coins!
Then you can delete any post instantly, except for your own Tongue
Got it, finally. It means spam-bumping bots will do their posts and delete them from time to time in order to keep their thread (in bumping services, maybe) always appear in the top of the first page.

If someone is posting what amounts to bump spam in a self moderated thread that continues getting deleted, someone should get some kind of punishment, be it the OP or the bump spammer.

The admins have access to IP and probable alt information and can see if the OP and the bump spammer are the same person, they can see if the bump spammer is bumping multiple threads (possibly running a bump spam service) with multiple accounts.

There should be a limited number of self moderated threads that are doing this, and they should stick out. If you have your post deleted, you should not be posting something similar in the thread again.

They could say that they removed spam from their thread/don't want user to post in their thread/name whatever reason you want and continue to "fight against spam/bump/whatever". There is probably no way to prove it.

Perhaps having above a certain threshold of deleted posts in a self moderated thread should trigger a review of an admin, or other person who can review the deleted posts to check for bump spam.

edit: I have confirmed that it is possible to delete someone else's post in a self moderated thread.

Ok, so user who posted in self moderated thread can't remove post, topic creator can't remove their own posts but can remove posts from other users.

So basically user create self moderated thread and removes posts posted by bumping bots and they bump thread again.

How is this exactly stopping bump abuse?

By the way, I am the topic creator and this is a self moderated topic.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to explain everyone here LOL

No one including the topic starter can not delete their own post in 24 hours but only the starter can delete others post any time they want.

The poster can't but the creator can. My reply on Livecoin's signature thread with 4merits got deleted in less than 24hours the reason why that is possible most be as LoyceV stated.

Wanted to delete this post and got this message:

By the way, I am the topic creator and this is a self moderated topic.

This restriction stopped the bump spam: bots that posted every few minutes, then deleted their post again.

If I am correct then it was done to stop bumping abuse.
Glad I was right :-P

Why user can't?

Self moderation is meant to stop spam, it wouldn't make sense if you can't delete spam for 24 hours.
Why user can't?

Why users can't delete their posts posted in threads in services if it didn't pass 24 hours but user who created self moderated thread can?

Both the topic creator and poster (other user) can not delete a post before 24 hours in services section. If I am correct then it was done to stop bumping abuse.
