So you want to draw 15KW power in a 16x10' room and you say "cooling included"?

LOL  .. no wait ROTFLOL

First off you'd need 15 15A 110V circuits. No problem you can probably run some 100' extension cords down the hall from other rooms right?  Better do it at night so no one notices!

THEN you'll have the problem of 135 degree room because, well f-in eh man you know what a 15KW heater FEELS like?!  That "cooler" is intended to cool maybe ~1.5KW, not 15KW!  So you need to make sure you have a window, and rig up a massive fan system to suck air out (no not a 3' box fan!).  Now you've thrown off the air balance of the whole building, and everyone wonders the next morning what that loud humming noise.  Someone finally walk up to the door with all these extension cords running out of it, and feels the door - HOLY CRAP the doors HOT - must be a FIRE!

What about digging down in the ground and finding a larger power artery line. You could cut into this line then branch off of it to drain the juice.. covertly.

And you could get hurt badly playing with power lines.... not to mention in trouble with law.  Paying power can be expensive but I would think "covertly" will cause your record and pocket book to hurt.

I would suggest that you take your idea and scale back the number and speed of your miners by a factor of 5, or maybe 10. See if it still looks like a great idea then. The idea of included electricity isn't itself a crime, it's just that your intended use doesn't fit what they are renting you. It's unthinkable that they would lease you 160 square feet with several 15Amp circuits with which to run your miners. You could always tell them of your plans and see what they say.

I'm sure someone has already tried renting an office that had utilities included to set up a mining operation.  I wanted to see what issues you ran into and how long it took for the landlord to catch on.

I was thinking a 15 unit 1.7T per operation (running ~1.1T at ~900W per).  Free electricity and cooling for $220 a month office lease (~165 sqft).  Would have to provide own internet connection ~40 a month for a total of $260 per month.

At current difficulty/price I am looking at a >$1000 a month profit and an 8 month ROI.

Anyone have any insight/thoughts?

Well you are looking at a theft of services charge in the USA.

Now less then 1 mile from my house a guy rented a home and grew 100 pot plants in it.  He got caught as  his power bill went from 100 to 1000 a month and he decided to wire to the power-line and was caught.  I think the 100 to 1000 a month  down to 100 a month was how the police found him out.

Instead of  asking for an opinion or insight  about my story. I will ask ?  it is true do you believe me or not.

Liability is your single biggest cost if something goes wrong.  One electrical fire and the whole building can burn down and unless you're insured for the risk that you are committing then you can possibly go into debt over $1 million trying to chase a couple thousand.

I agree, make sure you get some liability insurance, it isn't that expensive but will let you sleep better at night.

Honestly this is one of the dumbest dumbest ideas I've ever heard. How old are you?

Douchy feedback

I don't know if i would say dumbest idea.  I'm not into trowing names.

But most likely they will notice on the next month's electricity or even before as most likely it's not wired for the amount of power your thinking.   Most likely you will have a clause in rental agreement and they can ask you to leave/move equipment.

I don't think the fact that it's a dumb idea is that bad, not realising ( after thinking it through) that it's a dumb idea, is what should be a crime.

8 months ROI? That's crazy long and by then BTC will be $25 and difficulty will be 1,000,000,000,000.

These small offices usually have other people who occupy other offices. Usually its a large office building and they rent out the individual rooms.

You would probably only have access to one 15A outlet. Max you would be able to pull is 1800Watts or so. I don't think the landlord would even care. There are women who don't want cold feet and use 1800Watt space heaters.

Problem is the noise would bug the other office workers and you would really be better off keep your 2 miners at a data center.

What hardware are you looking at that'd be $8000 for 17TH at 0.8W/GH? 0.5W/GH gear costs less than that.

Also, yeah the landlord probably won't appreciate you approximately robbing him of a thousand dollars a month. Go find a better way to make money.

If the landlord sees the power bill spike right after you move in it will raise suspicion. Most places that have included utilities do have a clause in the lease that state they are for normal day to day activities or something similar (if they had a decent lawyer setup the lease) and obviously bitcoin is not a normal business function/day to day thing.
