this is part of the strange errors, which I also had, check all the parameters! chip model in particular ... and try again several times,

I had the same problem, after 2 or 3 or 4 tries, it worked without changing anything ... strange but that's how it's happening;)

hola amigo saludos desde acá desde Venezuela... estoy tratando de reparar una t9+ con problemas en placa DSPIC32 y hago exactamente lo que tu explicas paso a paso pero me sale el siguiente error.......

The target circuit may require more power than the debug tool can provide. An external power supply might be necessary.
Connection Failed.

 Shocked Shocked Shocked
como puedo solucionarlo gracias de antemano

hi guys. is there any option other than flashing the pic with the pickit3?

If you are looking for another way to write on that digital signal controller or wherever the hex file resides then the short answer is NO, if it's not pickit3 then it has to be another similar tool, but your problem might be solved using another method, post your issue in a sperate thread and you might get some answers.

I repeat it there is an error in the source code of bitmain for the T9 +...

what is error in detail you say? are you have solution?

I compiled self-firmware use link: https://github.com/bitmaintech/S9_makepackage for antminer T9+ and S9, then flashing self-firmware to T9+/S9, both T9+ and S9 lost chain. even though I flash to offical firmware through sd card recovery, miners lost chain yet.

can still be an update error? or are already physical failures in the hashboard

It could be anything, but if I had to bet one BTC on it, i would say the 3 hash boards are physically damaged.

Did the seller say the hash boards were running fine? Anyhow you still havn't informed us whether you did try the latest firmware or not?

Thank you for responding, connect each hashboard individually and no hash lifts.

the 3 have the same fault, I do not raise the 3rd log by the limit of 64000 characters, I bought this equipment at about $ 30 to have spare fan and controller card but I noticed that the 3 hashboard presented the same error and I assumed that they updated the firmware and something went wrong.

I'm from Venezuela, I know it's an old equipment but as you know the energy is free I have other miners of this model and I try changing the controller card and still have the same fault.

can still be an update error? or are already physical failures in the hashboard.

Ive had the same problem I went with the newest firmware by bitmain and started at -2 THS and got all oooo's and my chains all show up with hash
I have not gotten braiins to work on T9+  , I think mikey might be reffering to "T1" or possibly T9 (not "+")

try the new firmware, start at the lowest common denominator  witch is -2TH  if that works walk it up slowly babysitting hash for at least 4-6 hours every step up .

non of the hash boards is working, which is very strange to be honest, usually they don't all go bad at the same time, you should first try a couple of resets and firmware upgrades, try Braiins OS it works on T9 as well.

your chances with replacing the hex using pickit3 are pretty slim to nothing, I wouldn't waste the money on a T9 given the tiny chance you have with these.

however, if you do own other miners and might re-use the pickit3, go for it.

I have personally bought one, tried it on a couple of bad S9 boards and was only lucky in a ratio of say 1 to 10.

'The right to privacy matters'
Well you tried all three when you did the log above.

Try first board all alone.  Ie no psu to boards 2 and 3.

Then save log to show us.

Next try board 2 all alone
Save log to show us.

Last try board 3 all alone
Save long to show us.

Then post the logs for all three boards.

Some times problems are with 1 board
And it run the 2 other boards.

You may have 2 good boards.

would it be possible to repair the hashboards following the steps of this post by means of a pickit3? if possible I would buy this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011BBQQEK. Would that do?

Thank you!

I think you had to miss something in the manipulation ...

I look your kernel log, and i see problem only by "chain 1" ... please unplug all hash board... and plug only one hashboard (other than chain 1) , and try it, and past here your new kernel log ...

If is running good, try to plug 1 hashboard to .... if running good to, reflash with pickit3 the last hashboard .

Just did it and nothing. i also flashed with micro sd (https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007577214-T9-Control-Board-Program-Recovery) and then put the firmware you attached. still nothing.

i took other control board from second same machine and its work fine. so i guess i need to send the hash boards to repair.

Thanks!

p.s you have hex for s9 ? i have few boards that not working and i dont have any other working boards here.

Hi , at the first time you are resoled the problem "pic 0xff" , and is good !

After, what firmware you have flashed ? try to flash this (2017) https://file11.bitmain.com/shop-product/firmware/Antminer-T9-PLUS-all-201711242319-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz , and reset to default the miner ...

Hi T9+ can not be overclocked without modification of Bmminer: s this one is blocked at 810mv audela of 675mhz of memory ... I compiled Bmminer for T9 + blocked at 840mv, and that allows me to go up to 750mhz for 13.65Ths with 1600w at Wall ...

The max overclock without bmminer modified is 12Th - 12.3Th at 1400w ...

There is a method that you can overclock antminer T9 miner to 14TH by editing the set_miner_conf.cgi through ssh.

Check it from here How To Overclock Your S9/T9+,T9,R4 To 18TH/s Free.

this method works well but is based on a software bug, I strongly don't recommend VERY strongly !!! the miner run VERY VERY VERY HOT !!! warning !!!!

THANK YOU

would you please stop using caps lock ?

why can't you load the original firmware back? what error do you get?

edit : lol just found out that i am not the only one disturbed by the caps lock.

^You can try the IP Report button reset.

Instructions: https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003595387-How-to-reset-miner-to-factory-settings-

See chapter 3, "Restore via "IP Report" button".

Also, please don't overuse CAPS LOCK. IT LOOKS VERY STUPID.

by force of working on the source I noticed an error,

in the source code to bmminer more problem, that I coriated, BUT, in the source code, for the T9 +, he verifies the verssion of the PIC, then ... against all odds, apply the update of the S9 !! ! to know :

Code:
// S9 , T9,  R4    PIC PROGRAM
#define PIC_PROGRAM "/etc/config/hash_s8_app.txt"

so there would be a solution to flash the card without pickit .... corrected this problem, but I have neither the temp nor the envi of brick again and restart my T9 +

I think the obvious point to make is don't put non-original firmware in your miners.
There are plenty of reasons why not to.

Generally speaking yes it's a bad idea to run non-original or unofficial firmware *except* in my case (and seems with others), downloading the source for the original/official miner from official bitmain github, building it per included instructions, then running it on T9+ essentially bricks the cards. One by one.. The longer you leave it running & auto-rebooting, the more cards it kills. It seems to happen if someone upgraded to the autotune firmware which must flash updates to the boards then the older software thinks the boards are corrupt so it tries to flash them & it appears to flash them wrong or with wrong version etc.  I didn't make note of what version of firmware these shipped with but if it wasn't the autotune one that's available on their site it's possible anyone flashing the pre-autotune firmware might end up in the same boat.

Block halving is coming.
I don't enough experience to any error from PICKit 3 but I will try to help you.
Let me ask why you want to flash the hashboard with PICKit 3? You must check first what is the logs from your miner before you going to flash the hashboard.

Have you check this http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/38/3/1537391587-power-target.jpg

If not check the Power target circuit from the tool then try to connect again if the pickit 3 couldn't detect the hashboard you can try to reattach the connector and USB cable then test it again. If still doesn't work you can check the connector 6 pin with multi-tester check the terminal if there still has a connection of both ends if not your problem is the 6 pin connector.

I'm having this problem.

Code:
Connecting to MPLAB PICkit 3...

Currently loaded firmware on PICkit 3
Firmware Suite Version.....01.54.00
Firmware type..............dsPIC33E/24E
PICkit 3 is trying to supply 3.250000 volts from the USB port, but the target VDD is measured to be 3.000000 volts. This could be due to the USB port power capabilities or the target circuitry affecting the measured VDD.

The target circuit may require more power than the debug tool can provide. An external power supply might be necessary.
Connection Failed.

I dont know whats the problem, but i cant connect the pickit cant find vdd target voltage.

Code:
Connecting to MPLAB PICkit 3...

Currently loaded firmware on PICkit 3
Firmware Suite Version.....01.54.00
Firmware type..............dsPIC33E/24E
Target device was not found (could not detect target voltage VDD). You must connect to a target device to use PICkit 3.

SUPERS! it is always a real pleasure to see that my hard work is helping! and a gift is the cherry on the cake !!! then a real thank you;)

Ps: Have you tested my eco mode?

indeed i appreciate it. i was getting nowhere with bitmain support.

No i haven't seen your eco mode stuff. Is that in another post? I messed around with voltage on the github source but only dropped my power usage a couple watts per card which is better than nothing but not as much as I had hoped.

Strongly that your PicKit arrives, that you see for yourself, I experimented all this, I repeat it there is an error in the source code of bitmain for the T9 + (by the way I share a bmminer eco mode, and it works, I've cracked the code for that, just try it after repairing your card), there's just 99.9% chance I'm right, just wait for your PicKit and follow my tutorial, and .. .. ENJOY !!!

OMG I COULD KISS YOU!  Kiss IT WORKED!! Cheesy  My picKit 3 arrived, I followed your directions on the 2 dead cards 1 by 1 & BOOM all 3 cards are working great again!!  THANKS A MILLION!! I gave you a merit I had available & EDIT: I SENT YOU a bit of LTC to say thanks Smiley  Sorry it's not much but know I *REALLY* appreciate your work on this solution & taking the time to point me here from the other thread.

Ps. Safe to say this confirms it's not a hardware issue & bitmain's source is F'd up.

If the flashing doesn't work in your hashboard it's not a software related issue.
Broken or damaged hashboard must be replaced or if you have some hardware repair experience you can experiment the hashboard by heating some ICs and chips using hot air and flux and flash them again with a good hex file. However, if you don't have any hardware experience better to replace it with new one.

Hi BitMaxz. It's hard to believe all these bricked T9+'s after running older/built bmminer or older/built firmwares are a sudden in-common hardware issue?! Check out the logs..  The code incorrectly detects wrong fw ver then attempts to flash but then after that the version is 0xFF & the cards no longer work..  On top of that why would dumping PIC from working card then restoring onto the newly dead card fix it if it was hardware?  Perhaps you didn't see my post in another thread with the log & details but here's a link:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.48611011
That thread is very very long so I don't expect you to follow the entire thing but many people with T9+'s have run into this issue after running old/custom builds of firmware and/or custom built bmminer from the official bitmain github..

So no flashing doesn't work but it appears either the firmware in dsPIC33EP16GS202_app.txt is wrong/corrupt, something changed (perhaps with the new LOW POWER firmware) that when running older versions incorrectly flashes the PIC, there's a bug in the old miner code (least likely as it would have surely cropped up before now if that was the case..).  What would be handy is to have a copy of old firmware dated same time as github source with copy of the then dsPIC33EP16GS202_app.txt file or better yet updated LOW POWER Nov 2018 source on github along with the updated/correct dsPIC33EP16GS202_app.txt file.  Either one should provide a way to test this further.

In the meantime I added a bug to the source warning T9+ users to beware of this issue & not run the code on github and I have a pickit 3 on the way to attempt recover per 1st post in this thread which would indeed confirm it's not a hardware issue.

Thanks again for the response & appreciate in advance any help in tracking down & resolving this issue.
Bill

EDIT: Here's a snippet of the log to make it easier:

Code:
Miner Type = T9+
Check chain[1] PIC fw version=0x90
chain[1] PIC need restore ...
Later:
Check chain[1] PIC fw version=0xff
chain[1] PIC need restore ...

Note the pic fw version was 0x90 before, the built bmminer tried to restore the firmware then from that point on it read & logged 0xff every time.

Block halving is coming.
Thanks for this info it gives me hope I can fix my T9+.  I never even tried the dozer build I just built from the official source!  It really sucks their own software breaks our miners!  The other thing that I'm confused about is if the mminer program can flash & wreck the boards how come it can't flash & repair the board using a good hex file?  Maybe I'm missing something.

hi, the error come on this :

chain[2] PIC jump to app
dsPIC33EP16GS202_get_pic_sw_version failed on Chain[2]

.... you are already try to flash my HEX files ?

Or not, put your own HEX (on MPLAB take "extract") from the good hashboard.

Connect one of the 2 hashboards that works from the minor to the PICKIT3. And in MPLAB does extract (same as my tutorial but EXTRACT).

once the file is recovered, flash it on the failed hashboard, the J2, normally the middle one on the minor;)

I'm confident about the procedure, it should work! Wink

Thanks for giving a feedback;)

I'm sorry but I finished my development of S9 (AsicBoost + fan + voltage) and so I do not have it at hand ... my work is "for the moment" finished with him ...

On the other hand, if you have at least one card that works, you can extract the HEX yourself! if need I can help you;)

I couldn't find any alternative for PICKit 3 but I found a guide where you can make a DIY PICKit 3 clone. Honestly, making a clone of PICKit is not easy to do but if you are willing to make you can follow the guide from here Making A Pickit 3 Clone.

Hi guys, so I just restarted my computer and sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. I'm not entirely sure why this happens. Sad

In any case, does any one know why do I need to flash my board with the Hex provided by @thierry4wd in order for a custom bmminer to work? Is there any way to do this without flashing the board. Right now, I have to take out each board and flash them 1 by 1 with the pickit 3 in order for the custom bmminer to work...

Here's a snippet of the kernel log when I paste the bmminer in before flashing the boards with the hex

Code:
[   23.956220] bcm54xx_config_init
[   26.956770] xemacps e000b000.ps7-ethernet: Set clk to 24999999 Hz

[  100.487087] random: nonblocking pool is initialized
Detect 512MB control board of XILINX
Miner Type = T9+
set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff
set_reset_allhashboard = 0x00000000
set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff
set_reset_allhashboard = 0x0000ffff
chain[1] PIC jump to app
Check chain[1] PIC fw version=0x90
chain[1] PIC need restore ...

Thanks for the help so far guys! Really appreciate it!

For the problem: Too much current has been drawn on VDD. Please disconnect your circuit and check the CLK and DATA lines for shorts and then reconnect. I also had the problem, maybe a procedural error, try to disconnect and reconnect ... it worked for me.

Have you considered that there actually might be a short that's causing the overcurrent on VDD? You can also check voltages on VDD, should be 1.8V on VDD1V8, then look at VDD2V5 if it's anything like the S9.

Thanks! will try that out.. how about the hex problem? Your HEX works but the stock HEX will cause this error all the time...instead of opening each miner to program the HEX, how do I program via the PIC? (if possible)

Hmm. I've been successful for some boards but sometimes when I try to connect the board, this is what I get...

You are trying to change protected boot memory. In order to do this you must select the "Boot, Secure and General Segments" option on the debug tool Secure Segment properties page.

Any idea why this happens?

Also, I find that when I try to upload a custom bmminer, I get this same error all the time,

Code:
dsPIC33EP16GS202_get_pic_sw_version failed on Chain[1]!

Which I'll then have to flash your working HEX in order for that bmminer to work. Any idea why that happens as well? Thanks!

Thank you;) so at worst, a PicKit 3 does not cost anything, I got mine for 20USD new
this solution works very well, and will only cost you 20usd and it's easy to do, I explain everything;) if you really have no choice ...

I pence that may have integrated my HEX file in a firmware, it must necessarily be able to do it in a software way (it already does with bad firmware) ...

I'm going to hang on this question but currently I'm working on other small projects so I do not have much time ...

be careful, my "tutor" only fixes the problem of the lost pic, in the log of the kernel there must be this after having checked the fan:

Code:
chain [1] PIC jump to app
Check chain [1] PIC fw version = 0x03 (or other)

but if you have:

Code:
chain [1] PIC jump to app
Check chain [1] PIC fw version = 0x00 or 0xff

so my tutorial will be useful!

Also beware, my HEX file is ONLY for the T9+ ! it is equipped with a PIC32 while all other antminer are equipped with PIC16 !!!

We have tested this with some users before, but it does not seem to work for everyone. I'm glad it worked for you Smiley

Hi all!

I know some people have had a problem with their T9 + who lost 2 hash board, especially after flashing the firmware Dollemizer!

What happens, the bad firmware erases the board DSPIC32 to reprogram them, but as it does not have the HEX file, it reprograms nothing, and therefore the chain is definitely lost!

I also had the problem after trying a BMMINER custom that had exactly the same effect! so I got hooked on the question ... and HERE IS THE SOLUTION!

pre-requisite:
- a PICKIT 3 case
- MPLAB X IPE
- Bitmain HEX original file (pic32)

After :

1 - connect to the board, pin1 in front of the PICKIT arrow
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/38/3/1537391623-20180919-221729.jpg

2 - Connect on MPLAB
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/38/3/1537391587-connect.jpg

3 - Enter in advanced mode and take "power target circuit from tool"
http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2018/38/3/1537391587-power-target.jpg

4 - ERASE the pic (use if you sure that the hash board is hs)

Code:
Erasing...
Erase successful
2018-09-19 22:17:36 +0200 - Programming...

5 - Put in Hex File my Hex file extracted from good board (download here http://www.k-upload.fr/afficher-fichier-2018-09-19-103561fd6dspic33ep16g.hex.html )

Code:
Connecting to MPLAB PICkit 3...
Currently loaded firmware on PICkit 3
Firmware Suite Version.....01.54.00
Firmware type..............dsPIC33E/24E
Programmer to target power is enabled - VDD = 3,250000 volts.
Target device dsPIC33EP16GS202 found.
Device ID Revision = 4003
DEVSN0 = 00000000
DEVSN1 = 00000000
2018-09-19 22:16:21 +0200 - Hex file loaded successfully.
Loading code from C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\Firmware antminer D3 et L3+\pump firmware T9+\Prog PIC\DSPIC33EP16GS202.hex...

6 - "Program" and wait !

Code:
Programming...

The following memory area(s) will be programmed:
program memory: start address = 0x0, end address = 0x1dff
Programming/Verify complete
2018-09-19 22:18:13 +0200 - Programming complete

once the cards flash with PicKit, do not forget to reflash the minor with official firmware bitmain before reboot the minor ...

to do this, do it before you flash the card, or just connect the controller card (without the hashboard) and flash the official firmware, power off the miner, reconnect the hashboard and turn on again.

Essenciel is that the first start after flashing the board is done with an official firmware on the minor (with hashboard connected) otherwise the problem will come back immediately..

Now your board is reprogramed ! and working !!!

For any advice or request do not hesitate! Wink

If you like it;)
