Is it possible to reply to a topic without bumping it? I think this would be a very useful way to warn others of scammers, trolls and suspicious posts without bumping the thread to the top where more people can see.

You need to make some consideration before making the reply instead of bumping, though there is nothing bad at least in making a bump once a week or so, as for the reply, if you're not the last that replied o same thread and you feel like there is more to add as an additional information concerning the thread, then feel free to make your reply, we also bump in other to avoid spamming because you will discover some are just making post without having any quality content in them.

I don't think its gonna be effective cause if there are less people who can see on that post then it's hard to caught that scammers.
Exactly, but that's just one of the many reasons why no bump replies are a bad thing to the forum's ecosystem as I like to call it. Having no bumps when you reply to a topic no matter how old the topic is means that necro posters would have the easy time to discretely pumping their post counts by replying to old posts that don't seem relevant, without the bump in that old topic, people wouldn't easily check if there's been an anomaly, a closer inspection would reveal the abuse but it's not everyday that someone's have the time to check on profiles of each people here in the forum. Another thing is updates, if you don't bump old topics that needed an update, things would be left in question for so many people and who knows what might hurt when people don't know about the updates because it wasn't bumped, it's kind of like in a game, if you haven't heard about the new updates to the mechanics, you will have a hard time navigating the game for awhile.

That does pose a problem.

And what other said above the more user who can see a post then it will be easier to caught cause when the thread is bump there are many users who can read the last page or even they will do a back read so that they can make a reply and when they. Found a suspicious post then they will report it immediately to the moderator or make an awareness reply.

But whats the use of the post if no one can see, reply and don't engage in conversation with your points?

If the topic is about a business then everyone wants the topic is always at the top and to prevent it admin even introduced the bump link. But here you are asking completely opposite :-D

Maybe we could implement something similar as one of the "addictional posting functions" but for all boards?
I don't think this is going to happen any time soon.
It's not so hard to bump any topic with new post, and if you want to warn moderators about scammers, trolls and suspicious posts you can do it simply with Report to moderator button.

I believe it's best if the post is bumped up so more people can see it. The more people see a post, the easier it is to spot whether it's a scam or false. You can fool one person, two people, 10 people, but it's harder to fool 50 to 100 people. It takes just one person to verify that it's a scam for others to find out.
There are unofficial rules on this forum that say before you reply to a post, first read the post, read at least a couple of the first comments and a couple of the last comments. If you do that you'll see the post from the user that points out that the post of the user is a scam.

Also, if the post is not reported to the moderator(s) of the board, bumping the post up might open it up to moderators to see and delete or penalize the poster.
The best way to deal with posts like that is to report it. After commenting and warning that it's a scam or fraud, report it.

It only works for your need on boards with Bumping score.

Bumping changes on some boards

There's long been a problem of spammy bumping being used to keep topics near the top, but lately it's become unbearable. Therefore, on these boards, bumping has changed:
 - Service Announcements
 - Announcements (Altcoins)
 - Tokens (Altcoins)
 - Bounties (Altcoins)

On boards without bump scores, it's default that when you make a post, you bump that thread.
On boards with bump scores, you can bump a thread by making a post or by using a red bump button.

Post, delete your post, then post again. That way you don't add "bumping power" to the topic.
(This only works on boards with a "bump" button)

I think this is nice to the op question. Because when I saw the topic and read through the content I was about to say that there is no way one can reply to thread he has created without bumping. So with this your "delete and reposting" method is also good. But there are some boards, the author can't delete his own post and when report to moderator before it can be deleted and not all topics moderators are deleting.

And if the moderator has not deleted the post can I move the thread to archive and recreate the topic to bump it again?

Why not use PM in this case? Do you want to warn some people? That is, fraud, or scammers who can cause harm, will be interesting and pose a danger to a certain circle of people. Won’t these people be happy about your warning in a PM? Why don't you want to keep others safe?

It's possible but i'm curious how could it be done though. Or maybe theymos can add an option filter on the "Additional options..." like "ignore bumping the thread after a reply" or something similar. So yes, it will be another workload to theymos.

But thinking about it, knowing scam are not moderated here, so i don't think admin would care much.

Hmm at the moment it's not possible although there are some sections in which threads are not bumped by the latest posts, but most section works according to the latest posts. If you have seen old posts so many times, which are bumped by some scammer, or anyone which you think was irrelevant and wanted to see the latest reply. Then use the Ninja's TG notification bot. As you can track the whole board there and whenever new topics are created you can see them and can make posts accordingly.

This way you can keep a good record of the topics people are making, I never saw any old thread on the top as I mostly visit BTC, Help, Meta, Trading, etc. sections so these are always flooded with new topics. I suggest you to use the tg method to avoid such behavior. Plus if you think this post made by X member is only meant to bump this thread and useless then report it, Although I don't think its against the rule unless it's relevant to the thread.

This is only possible in some boards due to changes theymos made some years back; Bumping changes on some boards.

On those boards you'll need to have some reputation for your posts to actually bump the thread up to the first page. This is not exactly what you're asking of but it helps to stop trolls and spammers from bumping up threads.

The report button is the best tool to remove spam and the trust feedback will help warn of scammers.

This would be a very nice feature. When I was new to the forum, I would read old threads but if I want to reply, I would be advised to start a new topic because no one posted on the thread I want to reply for the past 120 days. I then thought about how to still reply to the thread but not bump it. It could be that I'll mention names of users I know will answer me in that thread and if they use telegram notifier they will read.

Post, delete your post, then post again. That way you don't add "bumping power" to the topic.

I stand to be corrected but the only way I think this would be possible is if the thread is self -moderated where you can delete the previous post and make a new one. Or you unlock it, make a reply and lock it.

if there's any Illegal activity going on that remains a dubiety, or sometimes ascertained, letting out a notice to everyone is certain; Your question is -- To what level of privacy is needed should there be an escalation? That's not even needed! How do you intend to let 57,000 active users know about a scammy project by posting them on a board that doesn't have the thread-bumping option [if there's anything like that]Huh do you intend to manually send PMs to everyone?
There's no way that works - hope it answers your question and suppresses your curiosity!

Since my stay on the forum, there's no way of responding to a thread without bumping it. The problem that some members have is that they don't read all the time, else there's no way a user will read a warning concerning a topic and will still go ahead to write on that thread, making the topic gain more attention.

It is only possible when you already have a empty post in a thread. Other than that I don't think it's possible to reply to a topic without bumping it because each reply bumps a topic and no matter what the topic won't remain un bumped when a new reply is added.

Replies seem to do that because of the fact that almost all forum members leave their forum page arrangements on the default which is sorting from post with earliest reply to those with the latest reply. Which is very nice too since if you want to be in a discussion, you would love to be in a recent discussion rather than an old one which has probably been abandoned.
As for now I don't think it's possible to reply a thread without bumping it. I also noticed some posts in some specific boards have a bump button at the top right corner so you don't need to make a post under that thread before it moves to the top. However I think threads that have that function can only be bumped once a week.
