Alternately, should there be a way to bump without posting? For example, people who list things in marketplace bump them if nobody has bought it yet, but a post which consists of "bump" is kinda pointless. Perhaps have a once per day rule so it does not get abused?

I do believe there is a rule somewhere to that effect.

Thank you niko, I guess this is not possible then.

Anyway, back on topic.. I support your idea for posting without bumping.

It would also be nice to be able to post without subscribing to the thread.
Post + Unwatch.

Oh, thanks  Grin

Edit:
How do you do that? I cant unwatch threads I've posted to.

Two ways. Go to edit watchlist at the top of the actual watchlist, or just go to the thread and click unwatch.
He was referring to the "show replies to your posts" list, not the watchlist. Apparently, can't "unwatch" a thread from the former.

Occasionally I notice a thread started that seems to intentionally spread false information. Typically, the user who started it never bothers returning to the discussion. I would like to be able to respond (for the sake of users reading the thread), but I don't want to bump obvious FUD.

Would it be hard to implement the option to not bump the thread when replying? Akin to 4chan "sage".
Report would work well. I do not support the idea of "hidden replies", as it could be used for nefarious purposes.
It can't do anything worse to the thread than simply not posting in it would do, right?
