Actually the stats on the pools can be more accurate as they usually base their report for your hash rate on the number of shares you have submitted to the server. So even if you local miner says you have 300 MH/s and you are having trouble connecting to the pool server, or the pool server is overloaded with requests and it reports you have only 200 MH/s, then it is a bad thing as you are actually getting paid for these 200 MH/s as this is the equivalent in processing power getting to the server in the form of shares at the moment.

But in order for this information to be more accurate, the pool server needs to average the number of shares submitted for a longer period of time, like at least 10 minutes, otherwise with the information may be inaccurate based on the number of shares you are submitting.

So don't forget to monitor the pool load stats and to see if your miner is being idle more often...

Set phoenix to verbose and dump it's output to a log file. When the pool wins a block and reports how many shares you contributed, you can grep out how many accepted shares you doled out during that time period and see that it matches (they do have stats for that, right?) I could see a pool owner getting away with some tricks for a while, like if they had their software to add 10% to the number of shares required to solve a block and keeping that 10% of 50BTC for themselves. Or they never mention that 50BTC is actually around 50.2 with transaction fees.

The stats that pools report are based on imperfect estimation algorithms - don't worry; you are getting the same number of shares no matter the pool's estimated hash rate. Just make sure your shares match up locally and on the pool's stats.

Hi Folks,

I have noticed that while each of my two 5870s are mining at 398MH/s on Slush's Pool, the reported hash rate through the API available there is about 15 - 30MH/s slower on each GPU. I'm currently using Phoenix with Phatk.

I had a similar situation at the beginning of the week when mining on Eligius with a single 5870 running Poclbm. Then I was getting local reports of about 355MH/s steady, but the stats page for my user was reporting averages of about 335MH/s.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
