That makes sense. Seems risky to try and avoid be reported by reporting the post.

I guess success of that scheme would depend on how much digging the MOD does. I've got faith most would catch on pretty quick.

Hard to say what would be best, and in these situations it seems the forum rolls with the status quo.

If the report to mod link will become unclickable after a report, the abusers will offer "reporting posts with bad reports" service, to report spam with some throwaway accounts, for the reason to let the spam post / ANN advertisement become unreportable for a given time...

The report link should probably become unclickable once you've reported that post as I and others have suggested before, but Staff would almost certainly be able to spot this sort of abuse if people tried it, and if it was done repeatedly the dupes would likely be marked as bad, thus defeating the purpose. There are much easier ways to legitimately bolster your report number than this.

I found a bug in the report system.

No, you didn't - you failed to search for a well known issue.  Smiley
This is the case for which forum is full of same topic more than once, may be.
I searched for bbcode tutorial and found 3-4 tutorials here which has been created within last couple of month.
Without the recent tutorial, there are a bunch of quality tutorials which deserve a bump rather creating new.
Later, I also came to know that we already have a page dedicated to bbcode.

Moral of the story- Each system has its own merits and demerits.
That's why I think demerit should be introduced here as admin mentioned in merit requirements thread.

This can lead to exploit, and users may report the same post many times trying to get the possible badge.
It will lead to a bad report:

I got 3 bad reports in the last month, all because I accidentally reported the same post twice. I made about 450 reports during this month, so I don't remember which ones I've reported already.

Agreed with one comment. "Report to moderator" just disappear or becomes unclickable for not only the user who reported but for the all users. In that way, we can avoid getting reported the same content again and again by different users. That means more works for Mods and more server overloads.
It also means you can make a legit post look bad, so this will be abused.

I can see one problem with this. Sometimes people will report a post but not explain the correct reason for the report. eg. Someone reports a copy paste but doesn't provide the source of the copy. This would be marked as a bad report and now everyone else is prevented from reporting it correctly.

There have been a lot of discussions on marking a previously reported post, or removing the option to report it once again.

No one is going to get one of these badges by reporting the same post a bunch of times, because the MODS still have to take action on the post. I don't know much about the behind the scenes stuff they can see but they would also see if someone else has taken action on the post. '

Anyone trying this would likely just drag down their stats, with a bunch of bad, or unhandled reports for the multiples. Also they would risk a red tag, as a Report spammer or whatever the tag becomes for the people who are all of a sudden interested in reporting just to get a badge.

This bug is like spamming a moderator.

My suggestion is that once you report a post, the button "Report to moderator" just disappear or becomes unclickable for the user who reported.

I hope this possible badge(reporting badge) didn't have anything related to bounty, signature campaigns. Otherwise, users(actually spammers) will surely exploit the reporting system just for getting a badge for their underworld bounties. They first spam the forum through their bots and they will report their own work. They get a badge easy-peasy Cheesy

Edit:
Not only exploit, but it would be more effective to remove or somehow show that this post was already reported, so you don't report again by mistake.
