Topic: [REQ] Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian section in the "Other Languages" forum. (Read 5689 times)

We're beating a dead horse here people. The decision has been made; a Croatian section has been made, no Serbian or Bosnian nor a combination.

I can live perfectly happy with the idea. As I already said in the Serb section too: weeks can go by without any action there (so no need for a separate section), and Bosnian is even less...

So if you like you (we/all) are welcome to join any discussion that you can read/write the language of... Have fun!

PS. a mod. for the Croatian section would be nice though... 

Notice that they (I'm thinking you mean Serbs) don't use Cyrillic characters even in their own thread.

I have nothing against croatian/bonsian/serbian joint section if the comunity realy supports the idea, but i am going to ask one thing; what happens when some people start writing cyrillic alphabet?
Half of the croatian/bosnian wont be able to read it, and its dumb to have situations like that.

I think its better to leave each country apart, and avoid future problems.
That staff member didnt mean he agrees with having the same section for 3 nationalities, he was referring to croatian section to come from subsection to its own section. (like it is now,his idea was done)

Seems like nobody gives a damn about this anymore. The board is kinda OK for now, there's not much trash talk. But some threads could use splitting.

Looks like theymos is busy again or hasn't found a suitable candidate. I do not see a need to rush it though, things aren't out of control yet.

Also... unfortunately... no. But there is (thankfully!) moderation in the sense that if something highly irregular is being reported prompt action is undertaken.

Unfortunately... no. But de facto the Croatian section became more or less the "unofficial" "ex-Yugo" place to meet...

Portuguese board has Brasil and Portugal subforums.
If you think they are similar but different languages, I think the best solution is making alt-boards for Serbian and Bosnian under the Croatian board. I don't see any active Bosnian thread btw.

I totally agree we should have all them combined , its the same language .

But i also understand some people will mix politics into this and will be against it.

So, what i suggest is , make a poll and we all vote for combining that three languages into one section or against it.

But that language is the old-slavic, proto-slavic, that's why on my trip I could communicate with people in Prague and in Bratislava on Croatian when they didn't understand English
If different, please tell me why are our languages simmilar, how do we communicate with these slavic nations that are not "South"?

Actually you're very wrong. That percentage is made up.
prof. dr Volf Ošlis (was an important man in Germany, not sure about now) stated a few years back that the breakdown on Croatian and Serbian is idiotic. There are just variations of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yugoslavian_language thus the same language, he stated. You can find this information easily.
But this is pointless, since you won't admit to being wrong no matter what.

Croatian and Serbian have less then 5% the same words, the thing it's based as "the same" is because the words are simmilar
mleko --> mlijeko etc.

but people from Slovakia speak a simmilar language too, why not let them in the thread too?  
they at least have the same months as we do among the simmilar words

AFAIK in Bosnian and Croatian clubs there are often if not mostly Serbian songs. The people don't seem to have an issue with understanding each other/others language. I still don't understand your issue here. American and British English have words that are somewhat different too?

For any words that differ, Google is your solution. You can find anything.
Also it's easy, just state that Cyrillic is not allowed, problem solved. I've never ever seen someone type Cyrillic in an EXYU 'subforum'.

It seems that we don't have agreement about this at the moment, so either start poll about the name of our subforum or don't change anything (Croatian or hrvatski is fine for me).
Also, I would like to suggest Parazyd as the moderator in Croatian subforum.
Others can add their opinions or we can also start pool about this suggestions, if necessary.

They don't write Cyrillic in their current thread. And I can't see the reason why you wouldn't understand what they're saying (I'm talking about Serbs).

I can handle Croatian/Bosnian but EXYU or Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian no, there will be people writing in cyrillic and neither Croats or Bosniaks understand that lettering

besides, in Bosnia, Croats are one of the 3 nations so I don't see a problem why Bosniaks wouldn't read a thread in the official language of their country (Croatian,Bosnian,Serbian)

Also Croatian and Bosnian are 90% the same (differences in months like they use english words aka. Februar for February while we use Veljača), but Serbian language differs in almost all words in pronunciation and spelling besides the words for months etc. (all simmiliar words are different, for example we say mlijeko, they say mleko), we can understand them but I find it tiring to keep reading that language
not to mention different words like we say we say mrkva, they say šargarepa, we say željezo, they say gvožđe..

I don't mind having the same thread with Bosniaks, since I can't even notice a difference if I'm speaking to someone from Bosnia or Croatia

Slovenian and Macedonian language differs from ours unfortunately.

EXYU would be right for all the countries from Yugoslavia which speak similar languages. I've seen a few forums which have that section instead of specific for each of those countries. Maybe that could work?

If not, what are the three words for the languages in the three languages? Or is there some other single word that means "Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian"?

Yes. The languages are very, very similar. Name it simply "Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian", I dunno.

I've been carefully watching different languages in 'Other languages/locations'. The Croatian thread has the most posts, and 3-4 times more than the 2nd most replied to thread.
It is definitely time to give them their own section.

The Balkan community isn't quite small here on Bitcointalk, and that's why I'm suggesting a subforum/section not only for Croatia, but combined with Bosnia, and Serbia.

The Croatian thread seriously got big, that's true. The Serbian/Bosnian threads aren't that big, but still, their respective languages are close to being same, so I don't see why they shouldn't be included in the subforum.

Yeah,it would really come good to have a dedicated section for Croatian,Serbian and Bosnian language.It's quite hard to find any info for which you are searching in example Croatian thread,there are 200 pages to search through..even searching with the search function is not always very helpful.

Hello. We'd like to request a dedicated section for these three languages.
The languages are very similar and we can understand each other perfectly fine. The threads became quite large in the subforum and maybe it's time for a dedicated section.
