I was just thinking that it would be good, if we had a official Wall of fame for our fallen Hero's and also for the people still alive that has contributed to the success of Bitcoin (BTC) over the years.

I am thinking of guys like Hal Finney {RIP} and even Andreas  Antonopoulos. or the infamous, Satoshi Nakamoto

The funding of this page can come from donations or sponsored by merchants that are active in the Bitcoin scene. We should all pitch in to create this website. The graphic designers / website developers and everyone that benefitted from this technology.

Any suggestions on how this will be done and who would be piloting this Community project?

I have a website that I've parked for over a year. xppx.io. If any approved developer wants to use it for the HoF, I'm down. I don't care whose wallet is used for the donations. I haven't even created a landing page yet...

The main question is, who will spearhead this project? We should have a reputable figure from the community to initiate the project to kick off the project. People will not trust some anonymous person from a online forum to start such an important project.

Anyone willing to pitch this idea to some trustworthy individual, who might be in the mood to "Pay it Forward"? We just need one person to put up their hand and to say, I am willing to coordinate this project.

Come on people, we should honour these people with something special. ^sad^

We don't need some ultra respected member to coordinate this, this is something that can be completed by 1 person in less than a day.

People (including myself) are willing to do this without any payment whatsoever. No trust is needed.

Ok, we have a volunteer then.  Wink

How do you suggest people contact you to start this project? There are several things that needs to be discussed, for instance :
1. Who will be on this list? {How will this be determined?}
2. Who will be the escrow for the monthly donations to host the site.
3. What communication method will be used to facilitate a team effort to run the site.
4. Will this be funded with donations or advertisers
5. Where will this be hosted?

Stuff like that.

Thank you for volunteering, I hope you can get people together to make something special for these people. ^smile^

Sure. I'll start on this today and get this project moving.

1) Obviously a considerable contribution to cryptocurrency as a whole would be required, but we shouldn't limit this to just bitcoin
2) I already run many websites and will gladly host this without payment. Donations will be entirely optional.
3) Github. I can create the site in such a way that all content will be on github and anybody can submit a new addition for consideration using pull requests, which anybody can comment on and give their opinions.
4) I'll pay for everything. No ads. No "special treatment" when it comes to donations.
5) On one of my existing servers

I think one of the main things people seem to be worried about in this thread is money and donations. While we all love to get paid for our work, this should not be the main focus of this project. We have all benefited from cryptocurrency in one way or another and should want to give something back.

We can use something like https://tip4commit.com to power donations and drive interest in contributing, it distributes received donations as "tips" for contributing to the project using github. This way nobody from the project is controlling the donations and they will be distributed fairly among people who actually contribute.

Edit --

I started working on this. Github: https://github.com/BitFame/BitFame.org

How does a reputable 'figure' matter ? Why do you think a reputable figure will always have the right views ? It's a logical fallacy.

Again,a reputable person's opinion wouldn't really convince programmers, developers designers to dedicate themselves to the project if they have conflicting views on the same.As much as this project sounds community oriented, there shouldn't be one father 'figure' who's opinions will be always considered as right.

the important question is whose wallet address will be on the website for donation ? Trust is important mate.
Can use a reputed escrow or a shared wallet.

I think Kakmakr is worried that non-respected members could modify the list for their own purposes...

A list/website by itself is nothing.  It requires validation from respected members to succeed.

I say go ahead and create the website, but build it in an open way, so that people can see exactly how and why a person got on the list.  Smiley

It's an interesting project and I'll happily make it without any payment. I just need suggestions, descriptions and images of people to list in the hall of fame.

I'm willing to offer my skills (for free) but it shouldn't be called "official Wall of fame" unless someone like theymos, leads the project.

Also there's some articles in regards to these so perhaps just notify the authors to update the list accordingly or just to go ahead with the idea of creating a website for the sole purpose of this (it wouldn't cost that much to have a domain and hosting for such project, as well as maintaining it).

Here's some articles (more can be found easily):
