Q: How many visits to a faucet while it's empty does it take before you write it off altogether?

These are questions I'm personally curious about, because some of the best faucets get emptied on a daily basis. I'm wondering how much that hurts them due to lost visitors (especially since I run a rotator -- it would help better understand how long the community wants me to wait before flagging a site offline).

Well i think faucets need to have atlest 5x-6x more funds on the balance than they actually spend, just in case it gets emptied and then angry fauceters wont go there anymore.

I mean its just basic preparation, if you know you will spend 0.05 daily to finance your faucet, you should have atleast 0.2 there just in case the traffic increases massively to not lose confidence of clients.

Thanks guys for support, I`ve decided to not make a faucet after all, so sorry about that, I feel that the faucet business is not for me.

I might change my mind later, however as of now I just provide this research for free to existing faucet users to improve their faucets.

I hope existing faucet owners can learn from this and improve their services

Loose lips sink sigs!

The only thing that pays less than bitcoin faucets are doing research on bitcoin faucets.

Thanks for sharing the research results, seriously, every week there's some new person asking for us to complete a survey and the NEVER come back to share their findings with us. It's the least someone can do to repay us for our time and thoughts (that they so desperately need.)

The faucets that earn real money (note: there are some making $10k+ a month) aren't earning from the faucet -- it's from their businesses. Faucets are not a sustainable form of income. They are used to generate traffic to your other properties/businesses (which DO generate income).

Damn its funny though, we got 0 people from mexico so far, yet if you check on Alexa.com any faucet, atleast 30% of their visitors come from Mexico.

Wtf is that... why are tens of thousands of visitors from mexico but nobody in my survey checked that lol.

I think many faucets get fake visitors, there is no other explanation.

Try out Mellow ads or Bitclix, they are both 2 new ad networks just popped up, they all pay in bitcoin. Perfect for a faucet!

I've been playing a game https://farmsatoshi.com - Farm Satoshi) the past few weeks - that is insanely fun and addictive, and satoshis are literally the game's currency. OK, that's about what I thought. So I guess Farm Satoshi is basically a faucet, underneath all the fun. It has advertising on the borders, etc., though not any worse than most news websites and so forth.

IMHO you should value rewards more than design. In fact, you don't need to care about design at all if your aim is to earn something.

I don't use every faucet I see, just only if it looks good. 1000+ reward is a must, of course

I was always wondering from what country are the most faucet users. I know that bitcoin is from USA, UK and Canada, but the Faucet must be from other countries where earnings are lower.

Well sure, feel free to use the research as you wish, it's still under completion/incompleted, and every day new people fill out the survey so it becomes more accurate.

Have you not considered the possibility to tip a small reward after completing survey? You could attract many visitors paying them only 1000 satoshies per survey.

Yes like goldkey0070 pointed out alot of them have geo-targeting, so they pay more for 1st world country visitors, and less for 2nd and 3rd world countries.

It's because Google Adsense (the main supplier of income for most faucets) does like richer guys rather than poor guys. It's not that fair but where you live is where you live, perhaps they could switch faucets that dont discriminate based on country.

I think faucets can be a main source of income if you gather alot of referrals.

With about 1000 referrals /each faucet, you can make a partial or even a full time income, depending on where you live, so dont throw out faucets just yet.

Of course it will need alot of work and promotion, but it is autopilot, better than sitting 20 hours a day writing for sig campaign Grin

Yes i fully agree, the excitement factor has to be in any game that you want to make interesting.If a faucet pays out 500 satoshi with 100% chance constantly, that becomes very boring after, but if it pays out 5.000.000 with a 0.01% chance (its the same) then it becomes a lot of interesting.

Sure only 1 guy out of 10.000 will win the jackpot, but still it can be just as you too.And that adds a mistery and excitement to the game Grin

Yes, but it's not that profitable for the owner.

There was actually a PTC website, not bitcoin based, but it was like you had a character and also moved on a square, and you had to dig squares, and every time you dig an AD appeared for 15 seconds, and you could claim .30 $ with it. So based on this principle we can also make this for bitcoin.

Just make a square based game and award people with 1000-10000 satoshi by watching mini ad banners for 15 seconds, for each tile.

I dont think the main problem nowadays is with faucets, but with the ad networks, you got only 2 of them a-ads and bitmedia, and a few minor ones. You will need 10 different ad networks because each one usually allows 2 banners /site, or perhaps make your own ad network.

If somebody could design a flash game, as a faucet, with ads popping out all over the place, but not lagging, and enjoyable, then it would be much more fun and you could pay out more, because you could show other types of ads (sound,banners, hidden ads, etc) inside the game.

Also let's not forget about ADBLOCK, many guys use it, so faucet owners dont earn nearly as much as you would think they do Sad

Any website can steal your bitcoins if you are holding your bitcoin in an online wallet, many websites have at best adware (annoying virus that puts ads on your pc) and at worst some keylogger that steals passwords to your online wallet.

So if you use Blockchain.info or something like that, and your bitcoins are hold there, you should be careful with those sites because they can steal the password easily. Also an up-to-date powerful antivirus is very recommended when using faucets.

I`m just analyzing how risk taking or risk averse ,in general , faucet users are.

Yes thanks, i`m researching the psychology & demographic of the faucet users, so that i can later create my own faucet that can provide all the wishes of the faucet users. I`ll also need it for advertising later on, to know from which country are the most faucet users.

No stay clear of these types of scam sites.

A faucet should get the basic things right :

1. Award the users for their time. {You as a user, spend a fraction of your time, to increase the faucet owners income.. He should acknowledge that, and pay you accordingly} The higher the web traffic to his site, the higher his income.
2. The payment should be on time. {Your system must be flawless... if you fail, people will leave}
3. Make the Captha solving part, as easy as possible. {Lately one of my favorite faucets implemented a frustrating NEW captha system, and I am thinking on leaving them}... I do not want to struggle...
4. Your site should be clutter free. {Too much extra bells and whistles will irritate and confuse users}
5. Make the signup EASY and FAST
6. The faucet MUST have a good referral system.

These, in my opinion are the MOST important building blocks for a successful faucet.

Based on another research, 1000 satoshi / hour is the current average +- 200 satoshi. So most faucets do pay that much.

But faucet sites are not very efficient, they position the ads in a very crappy manner and they waste alot of website surface space. Thus they could have more income and could pay more, if they would have basic HTML skills.

Yes i might release it to the public, so that current faucet owners could tweak their site based on this, but it would also be a competitive edge for me so i`m not sure if i would release all info.

Most of you guys use faucets regularly so please answer from your guts/preference, which one are you most likely to do. My goal is to explore the preferences of the bitcoin users, and to understand what faucet users like.
