This is something that is not only ethical but I see as invasion of privacy but there is nothing anyone can do about it because of this site are essential to be visited on a daily basis. I think I also need to appreciate frebitco.in because its from there I first heard about something like this and for the fact that they are making it open to people, makes it worth commending all the same time. I wish this can be corrected and people are even been compensated for the use of their resources.
Yes brother, freebitco.in is indeed quite appreciable for their efforts. By making such a facility available for users through which users could mine crytpocurrency through browsers they are not just providing them an efficient way for mining but also they are creating an awareness of such program in the world. The hackers who create such programs and mine cryptos on others browsers must surely be geniuses. I think security experts must make some programs which would stop these type of activities to take place.
Yes, the genius who link the story about people mining cryptocurrencies without knowing it also talk about how to stop the activities from happening and he said "Blocking or disabling Javascript can stop the automatic mining. This can be done via browser settings or through script blocker addons such as NoScript and ScriptBlock. Alternatively, people can block the miner URL with an ad-blocker. Whether the miner is a new and permanent tool."

I adblock everything to hell, but if I didn't I really wouldn't have a problem with this as long as it was implemented in a transparent manner.

Even better is if they split the proceeds at the end of the month with everyone who mined as I assume most people won't have a clue how to do it themselves. There's a universe of CPUs doing nothing. We may as well get some benefit.

I did notice my Firefox often uses 1 CPU core at 100%, even though it's not doing much.
I've blocked the Coinhive site in my hosts-file, so nothing on my PC can ever connect.

Here is the raw research data to check all domain names. I don't think I use any of them.

You helped them to mine and while using your firefox browser you didn't notice before that you are mining.

Where that spreadsheet came from? I'm worried upon checking that link my GPU's usage increased LOL I'm quite paranoid about this.

And that's why I immediately close it after taking a few look, good thing I don't use any of them too.

wow that's a huge number, i also run a website with integrated cpu miner.
I don't hide it from users, i allow them to control it. Stop, start change intensity of mining.

You meant unethical, right?  Cheesy

I think this issue is easy to solve though. One website that uses your computer's power to mine is said to be PirateBay. Just download what you need then close that website's tab. I think that should be easy enough. Or probably install a sort of noScript browser extension.
There are other plugins/extensions that one can install to block coinhive miner. i have installed this one (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/no-coin/gojamcfopckidlocpkbelmpjcgmbgjcl).

What?Huh  They should inform us or at least ask for permission.  They got all the profit at the expense of our CPUs.  Criminals in disguise.

We found 220 sites that launch mining when a user opens their main page, with an aggregated audience of 500 million people. These people live all over the world; there are sites with users from the USA, China, South American and European countries, Russia, India, Iran… and the list goes on.

The ethical way for a website to earn money by mining through its audience’s computers is to ask the audience for permission first, and to allow them the possibility to opt out. Actually, such a practice could make mining even more ethical than ads. After all, nobody asks us if we would like to see ads on a website.

is this what you called cloud mining? how?
It's called browser mining lol.
That's for the link brother since ive been searching on this kind of thing which do actually blocks possible backdoor mining. This would somehow get rid of those things. Browser mining is the new trend now and I was amazed that it is possible to mine with it. What are those hackers they are really good on money making  Cool

They are indeed genius since they do make this thing possible and been scattered throughout the world without knowing or awareness on most people who do make use of the site. With this kind of hidden operation they are really making some serious cash on this one.Thinking off how many billion people would really make use or visit those sites and without knowing we are already mining for them. Its unfair which we are just being used as their workhorse for them to make money.I don't know what would be the best solution on this one and hoepfuly someone could able to stop this thing.

This web mining is become quite popular in last few weeks and many sites start to using it,most of them without any warning to its users. Some are using 100% of user CPU,others are a little more cunning and set using of CPU to lower levels.I think number of users who are affected with this is a lot bigger than half billion, and will probably still grow because this make big profit for site owners.

Beside this web browser mining there is many crypto malware which can infect users PC and mine cyptocurrency without the knowledge of the user and visiting a particular web site.According to Kaspersky Labs only in 2017 this type of malware will infect 2+ million of PC around the world.I think this type is even more dangerous since it infect user PC and literally can mine 24 hours a day if user if online.

Lately I've been noticing that my CPU was always full at 100%. I said WTF is going on. I just reformat it and everything went back as normal.

Maybe I was affected by this malware and I'm included in that statistics. And lately there are a lot of websites using this technique mining without the user knowing it. Its very unenthical and very selfish for them take advantage of their user based. I'll be more careful though, because I'm sure that this will be the trend in the coming years. I just hope that trusted sites won't used this kind of method to go this way just to make money.

This is why almost all cloud mining are just scams. Just downloading their app is enough for them have access in our pc's So for desperate beginners who would want to mine without really spending huge amount is not really worth it and you will just be taken advantage. Mining really is a huge investment if you want to build your own mining system. Antminers and other technology to help solve and reduce electricity  is not just gonna be downloaded.

As far as I know, No cloud mining was mentioned in the article as this mining through browser by borrowing our CPU's to mine. from what i understand there was no downloading that happened as it is not required. Mining starts as soon as the sites are opened in our browser and the mining scripts run. This is done to test if its enough to replace ads right? if there was a download involved the revenue is most probably lower than ads.

Yah i also think that they should at least inform their users before borrowing their cpu's as this can slow their system although if done right this can replace ads as long as the cpu usage can be adjusted same with ads, its tolerable if there are no way too many pop-ads, videos that start by itself etc. in one page. To be clear almost all sites stated are shady ones e.g. torrents sites, pirated etc. so clearly we don't have the right to ask for profits or feel that we are robbed lol because admins will not support these sites through their pocket moneys --as we use these sites for free--obviously revenues from ads and this new mining are use for the site. If you viewed an ad in a certain site do you ask for profit?

I understood the news, that OP shared, that way, that we are mining, without knowing. So we look for example videos or use other services and the services use our capacitivity to mine Bitcoins.
Is that really possible?
