I would suggest check BTC/altcoin market for some weeks and do not do any trade. By doing this, you will get market knowledge in BTC/altcoin market and then only start to think on real trades. Many people loose a lot of money in Forex market, because they do not have enough knowledge.  Wink

/r/bitcoinmarkets and tradingview are best for me

The most stuff i learned with bitcoin was on Reddit.
Funny story is, i never visited it before.

The community on reddit is HUGE. Just post a question and wait 30 seconds for an answer.

yeah same
I came on /r/bitcoin first and learn a lot. After that I started to explore other subreddits and now its basicly my startpage heh

Agree reddit has kick butt community for btc - I am sure most the users
on reditt also have an account here. When I had a problem with my miner
bitcointalk for sure trumped reditt in getting the answers to fix my problems tho.

Reddit trading community is good though if you stay away from the alt
coin pumper and dumper users trying to get you to join their twitter groups.

There are a lot of sources on these forum if you know where to look

There's a lot of info on this if you search for them, make sure you do your research first before trading.

If you want to start to trade with Bitcoin you should think about exchanges with a big amount of volume. The Chinese exchange BTC China has the bigger volume. Don't put your bitcoin on Altcoins cause they simply have a lot of volatility and it is always a shot in the dark. Stick to the BTC\USD pair and use some good strategy.

I really believe this is something you can only learn by doing and never be taught. Just deposit a small amount on exchanges you would like to try out and trade with it, get used to the layout, figure out how everything works, and while learning you won't loose much because you have not risked much..

Don't risk much untill you are confident you know what you are doing.. Also places like polo have chatboxes and I find that many people in them are very willing to answer questions and help out a noob. Especially polo..

Hi,

I am an early adopter of Bitcoin, I made quite a bit in 2010 - 2011 and sold it in 2014 at around ~$600.

I decided to sell it all and never thought I would rejoin the community.

I have had some time off recently and would like to get into Bitcoin trading (Just as a hobby). I have decided that I should buy around 5 BTC to start and have some fun with that. I want to trade BTC / Altcoins on an exchange like Poloniex.

I was looking for some resources, reading/watching material. Just on the basics of trading. To be honest, I do not really know what I am looking for. That is the point in this... I want to learn!

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

What did you do with your riches?

You should avoid exchanges with high fees because it is really hard to only break even with the fees.

Besides that... it is a HUUUUGEEEE timeeater to learn the basics alone. Do NOT trade with 5 bitcoins at the start. Start with $20 in bitcoin. I can guarantee you that you will lose everything. But better $20 than over 1K$.

Learn forex, check out babypips.com and learn about indicators and such.

I can advice you to first find some time and just try to reflect on the whole issue of trading. During the reflection, be sure to note down the key things that made you to quit the trading during the previous years. They will be able to form a good basis of either starting again or not starting. I am suspecting that you must have been facing lots of challenges that made you bring the trading to a halt. If you have learned on how to handle them, then you are on the right track.

I would advice you to not invest your precious Bitcoins in any altcoin as investing in altcoins equals to gambling. It's simply not a good idea.

If you want to start trading Bitoin, join an exchange as Bitstamp, Bitfinex, Kraken and BTC-E if you want to start trading without verification of yourself. Start with buying low and selling high. That's how we all started. It's easy and the least risky form of investing. You will need some patience though. If you have gained a bit more experience you can try day trading with a small amount to start with, if the volumes are high enough.
I agree with the altcoin statement, it is a mine field and you can lose everything in an instant it is I would say the worst form of gambling and there is a lot of manipulation going on.

I agree as well. There was a time when you could have made a shitload of money by trading alts and it was even easier than trading Bitcoin, but these days are over. Pretty much all of the alts are dead, there is no volume nor volatility and the worst is that they just keep losing their value.

Exception is Ethereum where there are some decent swings and volatility and of course btc/usd market.

if you are looking for a exchange to trade, please see this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-exchange-reviews-collection-the-most-complete-695082

and if you need some trading strategies, I think this is no correct idea, but you also could refer the Technical Analysis  https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#newwindow=1&tbm=nws&q=bitcoin+price
Bitcoin markets are up till now still unregulated and by defination Extremely risky Mitigation of that risk requires discipline and proper planning there are many trading systems and methods available  and it can be quite confusing only and save your BTC in local wallet or paper wallet for your security and bankruptcy.

Thank You for all of the replies below.

I seem to have an old Bitstamp verified account which is quite handy!

what you said is correct investing and doing trading in altcoin is very risky, i have seen in yobit.com site where so many altcoins i have seen with heavy flutuations and at the end they go for zero with out traders. so it is better you can go with bitcoins because bitcoin will never die. like what he said you can do with any exchange or get from the sellers who are selling here in this forum with the help of escrow so that you will be safe.
