Bitcoin-Qt client shows the wallet as empty. Will it still work?

You can import your wallet to blockchain.info.

For security I would recommend you wait though. There will always be other opportunities later.

Any chance of accessing the funds in my wallet to send money to another address if the Bitcoin-Qt wallet is not in sync? I had no idea it takes so much time to update.

I retrieved some bitcoins off coins-e to my wallet and can't access them. Now I'm missing the WDC train because of it.
