Bitcoin: My family thinks I've lost my mind...but I've adopted the concepts - I've invested some shackles - I'm hooked. Now "Ripple" garners my interest and today it only became more interesting!

Google is known for investing in companies (or concepts) that have staying power...check this out if you've got the Ripple Tickle.

As for me...along with my newbie status on here...goes my newbie status on Ripple! From what I've learned, I need find someone with a huge heart and a few extra XRP. If you'd like to help get me started...I'd be much obliged!

My understanding is that the Ripple protocol itself isn't actually centralized in any meaningful way, and has the potential to (eventually) be open in the same way as Bitcoin.

However, the OpenCoin company currently controls possession of almost all the 100B XRP, and they also develop and make available the only client for the protocol. So it's closed today, but aspires to be open in the future.

Just my 2 cents.

Man, I'd just keep my XRPs and when the time is right, I'll use it all to buy bitcoins Grin

Somehow, I'm getting a doubt Ripple would beat Bitcoin but I think decentralized is still far better than centralized. I think I'd just go with the one that gets better value over time. Wink

I don't understand why anyone thinks Ripple is a good idea in its current form.

They do seem to have made it easy to get started with Ripple. Understanding the world of bitcoin does take some effort.

Personally, I dont think so. But goodluck!

Why don't you think so?  Don't you think having google invest in it is reason enough to also invest in it?

Interesting you bring this up. Even after posting that last eve I stumbled upon an entire movement claiming that at it's base, Ripple is a Government initiative trying to wrangle the "crypto-cats". Now I'm no conspiracist, but the idea is actually NOT that far-fetched. We'll see how this shakes out!

Ripple might stay, But not sure whether the community would be interested in such a centralized coin.
