bitcoin fluctuations are hard to predict, from the bitcoin rise chart to the present day, which would you more like ?

bitcoin rises quickly and high or bitcoin rises slowly and high?
please! Your answers are accompanied by reason!

does it really matter which one i like?!
both of them have pros and cons. for example a fast rise means a trader can make a huge profit in a very short time and easily. but it also means a bubble and a burst which is a big drop.

and both of them happen regardless of what i like Wink
slow rises will happen all the time due to increasing adoption of bitcoin and the fact that people will be buying more and more while the supply stays limited.
and fast rises happen due to the fact that this adoption sometimes increases suddenly due to emotions (FOMO), good news,... and stuff like that.

I'm a firm believer in decentralized applications (including bitcoin, but not limited to bitcoin), so I like to see steady growth. A steady increase in price means, people understand the technology and participate. That also means the technology is real and can survive even in hard times. I'm basically a hodler, so I don't like sudden jump like we saw in last November or this January. These sudden jumps mean people chase prices, not technology (because no time to understand the technology in a week or so), which also gives market manipulators good chance. If people somehow caught up in those market manipulations and lose interests, that's not good for the technology. A steady increase will (probably) avoid huge drops (corrections) we just saw around 2~3 weeks back.

But we also know that there are many day traders. For them, sudden increases in prices give golden opportunity to make money. That's not a bad thing if you could judge when to enter and exit well. Since we are at early stage of decentralized applications, we cannot go far without speculators now. Therefore, right now, the technology needs speculators to bring it to the masses. When the technology will be matured, then it can sustain without speculators. Therefore, although I see 50% of my portfolio down in a week or so, I don't blame them now. These are the people who bring the technology to the masses now.

Everything happens with regards to the market. We cannot predict the true outcome. Everything happens in unexpected time period. At times gradual rise leads to a stabilized growth. Similar thing is happening right now, hope the growth will travel long without much of steep deviations.

Well, slow rises are typically associated with being more stable, but that's not always the case. We've been rising a little bit slowly lately but you still can't ignore the possibility of a sudden crash.

That being said, I'd take that over the sudden rise that brought us from the $7k range to $19k. Such rises give birth to a lot of media coverage, and lots of unsustainable interest. It clogged the network and brought upon massive corrections, which in turn gave birth to Bitcoin obituaries again. I know it's just noise but it just gets annoying how some people panic.

i think right now the price is being manipulated to stay low, but since there is a very limited supply of bitcoins and tons of money coming in, price will rise a lot eventually.  I think that predictions of 50k for 2018 are totally reasonable, but also keep in mind that all of the money in all of the cryptos is a drop in the bucket compared to what the wall street boys play with.  Point being, they can (and will) control the markets as they see fit.

In other words, I am very bullish but I also feel that there are significant risks to cryptos.

High volatility if you wish to speculate.

Low volatility if you intend to use it as a payment option or currency.
