You don't need to break them if you want them removed. Just put a little bit of flux on them and use a solder tip and they will easily come apart.

People rarely remove LEDs, usually when people want them removed is due to the annoying bright light which is a problem for some that sleep in the same room as their rig, but they usually took black electrical tape and covered it up and it dimmed the LED pretty well.

Unless its an error reporting LED that only lights up when something is wrong then I don't want to see it.  Tongue

Thank you all for your advice and comments.

After 2 days I noticed that one of the two faulty LEDs is sometimes lit.
Therefore I believe that adaseb analysis is right.

Regarding the saving, I believe it is negligible.


PS:
I also thought about breaking all 6 LEDs, but that wouldn't have helped me be profitable right now.  Grin

I don't think the LED burnt out, I just think its a very bad soldering job and there was a crack in the solder and it no longer lights up.

Basically sometimes when the riser heats up, the LED might function again due to the metal expanding and the solder making contact again. When cold there is an open circuit.

I would leave it the way it is, if you really want it to be functional, just put some flux on the LED and do a simple solder tip swipe and it should function again.

Either this or like the above poster has said, the LED burnt out due to heat, however most LED should be able to withstand heat from GPUs which is not all that hot to begin with.

There a high chance that the LED just got burnt from the residual heat of the GPU on top of it.
As the matter of fact, LEDs are too sensitive to heat that why even the smallest one needs a thermal compound on its base before installation.

here is your answer: though for now everything works well as before, global average hashrate has not changed.
led is just a light indicator. It's better now actualy , it will consume few W of power less.
Like .064W or 64mW? That's gonna save him a lot of power consumtion Grin

.064 x 720 =   About  46 watts a month

In one of my rigs with only 3 GPUs I'm using (for about 6 months) risers version 009s that have 2 LEDs (red 3.3v, blue 12v).
After a periodic maintenance (cleaning) the blue LEDs (12v) of two risers do not light up anymore even though for now everything works well as before, global average hashrate has not changed.

Does anyone know if I still have to replace them?
