Always use powered risers!!!
Especially for more than 2 gpu-s on single mobo!

A few motherboards now comes with either molex or 6pin pci-e connector on the board. On those mobos you do not need powered risers.

What?? You mean he should be aimlessly repeating something that someone else told him, yet he has no understanding of why or what factors could change it?

It depends from VGA to VGA some cards pull out maximum power from 6pin or 8pin connectors and some of them pull through motherboard also. In case of 280x, 290 and 290x it is better to use powered risers.

yep agree, I use unpowered risers on cards that have no sep power connectors. My 7950 and 7970 the cards 'do' work but they are way more stable with powered risers.

I know it is easier to tell people that they always need powered risers, but it isn't true.  I have had 6 gpu rigs running for several  months with no risers, no voltage drop and no problems.

it's not easier to tell people it's safer for mobo!
you can burn mobo with more than 2 gpu-s running without powered risers.

I wonder how much longer will work that mobo of yours.
and I really can't imagine how did you place 6 gpu-s on mobo without risers!
bullshit if you asking me.

What motherboard are you using?  That will determine if you need risers or not.
