If the world has a nuclear exchange, it will be between India and Pakistan.  Conflict between those two is inevitable.

Why do I say inevitable?  India needs water, and it is damming rivers to get it.  Those rivers flow into Pakistan, which also needs water.  Soon there will not be enough to go around.  Both countries are nuclear.

I agree with the first part of your post, but disagree with the second part.

India mostly depends upon River Ganges and River Brahmaputra for water. R. Ganges originate within India, while R. Brahmaputra originates in Tibet. China is currently considering to construct a major dam in Brahmaputra, which will divert most of its water.

On the other hand, Pakistan depends upon R. Indus for most of its water needs. Some 75% of its waters originate within Pakistan, some 15% in Tibet and the remaining in India.

How about sharing the water equally?  I know I know it seems silly and simple.  From my point of view the same could be said about unnecessary death and nuclear war.

So let's say India has enough water for 1 billion people.  They need water for 1.2 billion people.

They can easily get the water for 1.2 billion people by building more dams.

Are they going to let 200,000,000 people die for Pakistan?  When they have the power to prevent those deaths?  A leader would have to be insane to come to an agreement to let two hundred million people die.  Meanwhile those dams will cause 200 million people to die in Pakistan.

I tell you my friend - there is a finite supply of water and not enough to go around.  War is inevitable.

Let's believe for a bit in science?
Improved fusion reactor and desalination plants might overcome this problem.

Well, there's lots of water during the monsoon.
But of course they would need proper planning and some common sense.
That's not going to happen any time soon.

I would like to think there is a better way to fix that issue then go to nuclear war.

Name it.  You have almost a couple billion people who would be hanging on your every word.

pakistan seems the scariest to me.. they are batshit crazy. if they feel like they have nothing left to lose, they might just let it go.

If the Pakistani government is democratically elected, then it is OK. But the problem is that we will never know when that country slips again to a military dictatorship type of rule.

Well in the current system this is not very surprising.  Unstable economy and global politics are not a good mix.

Brings to mind an old VICE special about a dirty bomb being nearly sold to Al Qaeda by a Bulgarian arms dealer. Terrifying.

It's kind a funny when you think how the smartest race on this planet can be wiped out in a a relative small time frame because of a few idiots or a simple malfunction.

Well..... the command structure right now is different from what we had in the 1960s. Russian and American nuclear weapons can be launched only by the respective heads of state. And that too after receiving permission from other top level staff such as the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. And regarding malfunction, it will never happen. These weapons will become dormant / inactive if any malfunction occurs.

You don't worry about those nuclear warheads that can destroy the world 100 times over? It only takes 1 mistake and we all die.

What I was trying to say was that Russia and the US know how to safely store their nuclear warheads and those weapons will never end up with the extremists. The same can't be said about North Korea and Pakistan.

It is safe? If not because of those two people below. We might not here right now. The humanity is hanging on single thread because of this nuclear weapons.

It's actually pretty scary that our continued existence depends on level-headedness of only a handful of people, and those people are not even at the top of command chain.

I wouldn't worry too much about the nuclear warheads which Russia and the US are possessing. On the other hand, I really worry about the 100+ warheads which are under the possession of Pakistan and North Korea.

I'm more concerned about the ones of Israel and South Africa.

I think Israel is having 7 or 8 smaller nuclear weapons. But South Africa? Seriously? RSA never had a nuclear program, and they never got the nuclear weapons from anyone. Or.. did you meant Saudi Arabia?

And I am more concerned about the power plants in Ukraine right now...

Well , one accident in the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and nobody will care for a few months who's Russian and who is Ukrainian.

How the fuck do you 'nearly' launch a nuclear missile?

You think about launching one , you get out of bed , then before pushing the button you have a cup of coffee and decide not to do it Smiley.

Every confrontation with Russia is making it worst. As soon Russia is defeated in conventional warfare it will go nuclear and US and allies will counter it with all they got.
