If you have the files on your hard drive you are still able to recover it i think.

You should buy a new hardware like the one you have and do a full clone, to let the original one untouched, then try to recover the files of the new one (the cloned one) with software like recovery my files , recuva...

Maybe you can find something. As far as i know even if you format a hdd if you do not write data on it again the old data its fully recovereable.

Sorry to hear that story mate

I know who they are and they know I know .

so do the police....

This is a good prerequisite to get your money back!
If the thief already has transfered the coins to an exchange your chance of getting evidence is pretty good i would say.

Knowing the thief in 'real life' is always advantageous in those kind of thefts.

In most countries the value (you should get back) is calculated in FIAT-value at the time of the theft.
This probably won't get you your whole BTC back, but at the majority.

Make sure to provide your law enforcement agency all required information.

And please keep us informed on what happens next. This might be useful for a ton of people here.
You are not the first, and will not be the last one being 'physically' robbed.

... I have been trying to recover the files from the drive/s I had OSX and Parallels on ....

I had the File on a USB-secreted away- and it was stolen by criminals I had the misfortune of knowing, who by my misfortune discovered

said file ....

now,  I miss my fortune .... ;-(

talk about truth in the language .....

I know who they are and they know I know .

so do the police....

let them go to jail.

I'm still completely unclear on the how the OP reckons the theft took place. Someone knew a password? Where and how was the password stored? There was a physical theft of some sort?

Give us the full details and maybe someone might know something. If not then at least others might learn from it.

Exchanges are requesting verifications (for KYC) and it's an obvious wrong move for him.

Not very exchange is requiring verification.
Especially not for crypto-to-crypto trades.

If the attacker is somewhat competent he probably used an exchange without verification with a proxy to exchange the btc to an anonymous currency (e.g. monero).
From there on it would be a pretty easy task to sell those monero on an exchange which complies with the KYC policy.
Agree, even just using up a common mixing service would really make those bitcoins to be fully untraceable. This is why its really impossible for recovery or do know where those bitcoins go. 33 Bitcoins is already a hell lot of money 293,900 usd as of this writing on its current exchange. For now you cant do nothing but to move on since those funds are completely gone. Sorry to hear about such big loss.

Once or twice it got passed to a Coin Mixing Service, it will be harder for you to find the culprit via following the traces of transactions. Even the remaning unspent balance.

I bet the culprit didn't used an exchange to shapeshift your Bitcoins.
Exchanges are requesting verifications (for KYC) and it's an obvious wrong move for him.

If he does use an exchange, contact the administration and request to track down any deposits that came from your suspected addresses.
But the thing is, most of those exchanges' customer service are crap, others have been known for neglecting reports from customers for months.

Good Luck.

I hope you can find it, but I'm afraid the hope is very small.
Don't expose your wealth to other people next time, whether this wealth is physical or digital.

Bitcoin not very anonymous at all from what I read ....

thats why MOnero etc.....

ASIO or FEDS can track this sort of thing from what i've read ....

Crooks come undone eventually......

any professional experts want to help me identify and report the funds location ?

how about half what we recover ,? as a reward for much effort ,,,,,?

they have not claimed BCH or others , perhaps theres a way to ID their IP ?

The best of the best are getting them next ,Ill be asking the govt to use their software ,  I had the data guys looking for encrypted wallet.dat ,
I recall changing the file to read lighthouse.jpg as a ruse , both on the usb and on the computer , they are looking into it ,

I only need the cops to find the crooks with these children of my coins in their pocket ... its now very obvious to me whodunnit .....

Maybe you should confront them on it, wear a microphone and record the conversation, this can be used as evidence against them later.

Alternatively, you can contact them posing as somebody else, try to set up a deal with the bitcoin, and then catch them out and report them.

However, most police forces do not take crypto theft seriously as its often not considered cash.

the usb has been stolen , I still have the drives my files should have been on ,
ive been dudded , my only hope is to police/bust the people who have those children of my coins...

You may still have luck finding the old wallet files on your harddrive.
The 11.9 BTC [1] unspent yet might be a change address of your old wallet.
I would suggest you make an image of your harddrive and try out some rescue software to find your wallet files.
Make sure to keep the original drive untouched if you are planning to submit this case to the police.

I know the usb was there June 2017 - as I excitedly showed a pic of my actual coin collection to the dealer , and there are only three lots who knew of them , me, the coin dealer and those I worked around who heard me talk , ....
they have breached my walls to steal them ,
I plan on a rescue.

Are the files still on the drives?

You need to provide more info... what wallet did you use?

Like i said, there is till 11.9 BTC unspent and if you provide enough info we might figure out if this is one of your old wallet's change addresses or not.

Was this a brain wallet?

I can see there is still 11.9 BTC unspent at this address: https://blockchain.info/address/137yraCHyyVRV69ssUbBooHsqUbp43WFSP that was sent from your address. With any luck this is one of your change addresses....

Telling the name of who you think is behind this should be enough for the police to find an exchange.
Depending on where you live, most exchanges apply know your customer laws.

There's also the possibility that the robber never actually sold them on an exchange.

Hi all,
Im such a noob , ive been robbed of my 33 BTC , I purchased them in 2011 and had them on a file in windows in parallels in Osx ,
someone has deleted and stolen files from my system in my house, the Mac was offline since 2013 , only booted rarely ,
some people at work heard me talking excitedly as BTC was then 1000$ ,  with a coin dealer in may 2017 and 1 month later it appears ive been robbed of  my btc ,

I have found my sent to address on list of unused accounts , 14UpfABacSUUM28gp8nb5BGbFS2aw2SMWR  I made a silly phrase when I first made this
address and remember it distinctly...  2 swim modern warfare racing  was the last bit  , the a back some from the front now seems prophetic..

I have just gone to load them in February 2018 and see they were taken in august 2017,

I have a fair idea on who and how , ....

have we any chance of finding an exchange they have used to tell police ?

any help much appreciated here ..

thanks
