The fact that he cheers for Facebook's coin only means that he doesn't really understand what Bitcoin is about. Just because Facebook is a private business and not a government, doesn't mean that it's good or moral. This is something that many libertarians struggle with, they almost religiously worship private companies and zealously hate government, ignoring the reality that anyone can suck. Facebook can easily be worse than majority of governments on the planet in terms of privacy.

He further commented that because he “likes competing currencies,” he’s all for cryptocurrencies and in favor of whatever Facebook is cooking up.

“Historically, governments always have to have a monopoly control over money and credit. That’s why we have a Federal Reserve instead of allowing the market to operate.”

Two competing ideas don't go well together when mixed up, especially two conflicting ones at its core. I like the Libertarian roots of Ron Paul, although siding with Facebook, especially liking what it's cooking already defeats what he stands for. It's a good thing to know that one man with enough knowledge and experience supports an ideology that has been pushed away by the big voices and corporations for the last 10 years, and it greatly adds up. Though I'd be honest I didn't like what he said about Facebook in the article. Libra isn't really what cryptocurrencies should be, IMO.

Raun had been giving conflicting ideas about bitcoin and crypto. Sometimes he seem to find a problem in it while sometimes he consider it as a solution.
He's a politician and he speaks what would attract people towards him. Whatever he may say, this man would never come to get away from the shadow of Donald Trump.
