Well, nice idea but why restrict it to RSA? Using a systematic approach for prime factorization it could be far more useful.

Also on an other issue, I think C# is a particular bad choice to implement it.

one major issue with this is that the difficulty will always be increasing no matter how many or more importantly how few miners there are.

I don't think the author understands how Bitcoin mining works.  Who generates the semiprimes?  How are these problems changed for each miner so that each miner is not solving the same problem (so that the fastest miner doesn't solve all the blocks all the time)?  Furthermore, how is this useful to RSA-cracking, except perhaps to create a peer-to-peer rainbow table of semiprimes and their factors?

The Casascius 1oz 10BTC Silver Round (w/ Gold B)
One important thing that needs to be answered: what part of the system should generate the semiprimes that the rest of the network is trying to factor?  Whatever generates them is going to know the factors and can effectively cheat.

This also doesn't seem to be a way to "break" RSA, it looks more like it might serve as a canary to tell us how far away RSA is from being broken via distributed brute force computing.

Thanks

This is incredible.

Use the same CPU / GPU power to do 2 awesome things:

1- Miner for your coins, helping the network;
2- Break RSA.

300GHash needed.

Create more interest in add more power to the network!

Newbie question: It is possible to migrate the actual blockchain to this new version or, it is required a new genesis?!

In fact, I just don't know when it is needed a new blockchain genesis to implement a entirely new feature. Like yours?! Instead of making the "RSA-coin blockchain"...

Adding this feature [2] to Bitcoin itself.

Cheers,
Thiago
