its possible, i have 1500 watts solar to 2800ah battery's , 15 200 ah batteries deep-cycle ( i got them from an cell tower that was
changing its batteries,   i run my s9 directly off the dc batteries , using a  protection circuit and a 200a relay

so when the batteries reach 14.1 v the relay is energized and the s9 turns on @11/th   low power mode on brains os

untill the voltage drops to 12.0 then the protection circuit cuts the s9's power  until the next day of sun and the batteries reach

voltage,  so it runs about 10 hrs a day, usually at night as its charging all day  usually runs 7pm to 6am but on

cloudy days it will not reach the charging top voltage so it will skip a day and start once charged the next day

really fun to build ,,

3 x 100 amp mppt charge controller
6 x 300 watt solar panels @48 volt
amazon battery protection circut
amazon 200 a relay 12v
s9 13.5 th = running braiins os

for voltage stabilization i use a 3 farad car speaker system capacitor

A well-made multiphase DC/DC whose output is a high percentage of the input voltage can easily operate at or above 97% efficiency.

There was some discussion about this here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.52151618

The info. on Bitmain's webstie for a S9k shows DC input range of 11.6V - 13V. The voltage coming out of your 12V battery bank that is most likely going to waiver outside that range during charge/discharge cycles. Here's a pretty interesting article on lead acid batteries : https://www.progressivedyn.com/service/battery-basics/

I'd suggest using a higher voltage battery bank and a DC/DC converter so you get a clean and constant regulated output.

How confident are you in the battery bus voltage regulation? Your inverter and PSU will have over/undervolt and surge protections built in. If you trust your charging bus to be able to provide a precise and reliable voltage (say 12V +/- 3%) on its own, the charging and storage capacities meet or exceed your expected draw, and you can safely wire into it, then sure.

I am just wondering if I could run a miner off of a 12 volt DC battery bank from a solar/wind system?

All the power supplies, APW3++, APW7 and others put out an output voltage of 12.00 to 12.15 volts DC so is there any reason why I could not run straight off a 12 volt DC battery bank instead of running it through a 12 volt DC to 240 volt AC using a expensive inverter only to have the APW3++ or APW7 converting it back to 12 volts DC, using an inverter there is some loss of power (90% to 95% efficiency) and then the APW3++ or APW7, APW7 runs at 93.8% efficiency, APW3++ runs at 93.5% efficiency, so why not run straight from the batteries and bypass all the losses?
