You clearly didn't use the link!
It links to Amazon (I think it is EU S.A.R.L that do this as it is digital equipment!)
Free delivery as each item (on its own) is over £20, so is eligible for free super saver delivery!

Oh, sorry ! I didn't thought about clicking on ref. Unfortunatly, I get this "error" when I'm on the page :

Quote from: amozon UK
Sorry, we can't deliver this item to France - Mainland

So I'll need to find another deal. I'll look on Amazon FR to see which prices I can get.

Edit : like I said, this is 39,95€ Undecided...

No chance getting a used Raspi on eBay or something like Kijiji/eBay Classifieds (not sure what is popular in France)? I got some used ones for around 20-25 € each. Probably you will even find used servers for a nice price.

You may be able to find something on raspberrypi.org! I was just thining this, that you may find somethingcheaper. Alternatively, find someone from the UK and get them to send you the raspberry pi.

With shipping costs, I don't think this is a good plan. I'll look for a few used RPi2. In France, the best site to find such products is leboncoin.fr. Would I need something else to connect the Pis, like specific cables ?

IF you get used ones you should look for ones with the cables already included! All you get is the board, you then ned your own usb cables. I think that you can use normal usb cables for this but it will tkae up one usb socket. Alternatively, you could use the corect cables for it or the GPIO pins.

This is something you may be interested in!
Or you may want this with a keyboard!

I hope that this helps!

You could always sell the rest of the stuff that you do not need in the package that you purchase!

It can be done on linux = it can be done on a Raspberry PI!
I would recommend you look at the publications/documentations frm university students to view that a super-computer device can be made out of a few raspberry pi's.
1 GB ram and 800 MHz processor is not big enough for what you need.

You would also need a spare hard drive for the blockchain to download on.

seagate 1tb ones are around £40 on amazon and are very reliable!

You would only need about 3 pi's to make this possible and probably 3 ethernet cables and a switch!

That's what I meant about cluster. Since I'd need three of them, plus an HDD, plus this, plus that... this may not be profitable, so I think that this would be a bad idea. So an old computer with a lot of RAM is the best plan ?
It all depends on what size pool your going for, and whether it will be single coin, multipool, or profit-switching (the latter being much harder to accomplish.... try unomp). But in general yes for a small pool, a pc with a fair bit of ram and a mid-high end cpu should get you going. I recommend using NOMP for a multicoin pool. Its far easier to setup for a first time pool runner. However if your only running 1 or 2 coins you may want a nomp+mpos setup as it allows logins and nicer per user stats.

itemvaluereferencequantity
Raspberry Pi 2£26.90ref3
Seagate 500GB hard drive£39.99ref1

Total:
26.90 x 3 = £80.70
39.99+80.70 = 120.69

£120.69 in total, not too bad from the potential earnings!

This is probably all you need, connecting them together thrugh old usb cables will be a good idea!

with one dominant control pi, and two other less dominent ones!

You are lucky if you can find such prices. From where you'd you order to get this price range ? Where I bought my RPi 2, I paid it like 40€, and without shipping !

Just took a look at those publications and even found an MPI tutorial! 64 raspi's inn unison!!! thats incredible! Thanks for pointing me towards my next project! Wink

I think that there is a description of it on linux user/developer magazine.
You may be able to find that on the internet somewhere to view for free.
Not sure how useful that is.

I also think that there is something like a switch needed to put the pis together, may be moe expensive to get a switch with 64 ports, however it is a good number as they are usually produced in sets of 8 ports.

Wow! I just got smoked lol. Ok let me rephrase my earlier statement. It would be difficult to run stable on one raspi. Your best (easiest) bet would be a desktop/server blade with linux running on it, simply for ease of use. I'm sure using external storage, and some well used swap space it could be done on a single raspi..... but it would be difficult.

On a single PI, it would be bad. You would never got over a few PH/s: if that!
However external mediums and old hardware may be good to use, with a link directly to a router to speed up connection!

EDIT:
Quote
sorry, I forgot to mention: this cannot be done from the SD card installed in the sd/micro sd card of the raspberry pi!
Due to the limitations of flash technology, it still only allows for the theoretical maximum 10000 Read/Writes. This means, a general rule would be that the Card will become corrupted after processing 5000 blocks, maximum.
If you were to copy over the root directory from the raspberry pi (by copying over the partition), then this can be overcome!
If you need any more help on this (please PM!)

You could always use an old computer to do this.
Or just attack an old GPU/CPU to it. Usually better to use CPU for this type of processing.

the minimum per daemon (when running a small pool) seems to be between 1.5 GB and 2 GB ram. I have run a 5 coin pool on a pentium g3320 dual core cpu, with 12 GB ram. In short, no edition of raspi is equipped for this task.... maybe as a vpn to run your pool through.... however , as you are using a raspi I assume this will be from your home network... I recommend using coudflare and any other DDOS protection you can... there are some people who troll this forum looking for new pools to DOS and blackmail for BTC.

Hello everyone ! I was just wondering about the capacibilities of the Raspberry Pi 2. Would it be powerful enough to run a pool ? And what about Raspberry Pi classic, A+, B, B+ and Zero ? If the Rapsberry Pi 2 can't handle a pool, don't lose your time searching on Google the specifications of the other models, they are all less powerful.
I advise you to forget it and use real pc. The powerful the better Wink

So I take it as a no. And what about a cluster of Raspberry Pi 2. In a simpler way, what's the minimum amount of CPU and RAM to run a pool, if there is any.
