You could underclock your hardware.

if you are using an ati card in linux, then aticonfig will allow you to lower your card's clock settings.

i too suffer the same problem, however after a few nights with it on you will get used to it

Pretty much I want lower fan noise at night while I sleep.

Is there a client that let's you limit?

I think it's not possible. I'm running the last Phoenix 1.50 and there is not and option for that.
