I went to a bar drank a few... then I had a dream...

China is going to run a serious economic meltdown, and we'll see a global crisis which in turn will trigger a 5k USD bitcoin frenzy buying...

then I woke up and saw bitcoin fall below 500, FML.

 Undecided

Haha, dreams might come true, just give it some time.
Atleast it's back above 500 again. Weiho! Smiley

I always wonder how the brain of these people works:

Oh look, the price is low, looks like a good time to sell!

1 hour later:

Oh look, the price is higher now, let's buy some.

4 hours later:

Oh damn, the price is low again, i must sell before it goes up.
As long as they're doing it with their own money, it's fine. Doesn't affect us in the long run.

Stop it, this is the kind of **** that started the China crash, people posting crap on the forums with no sources to back it up.

we need to get rid of the panicky types first, thats the way it works. all the easily amuzed sell at the bottom, then we rally with no obstacles.
I suppose that's true, it doesn't hurt the people who are in for the long run..

That couldn't happen today though, there is hardly anyone left who wants bitcoin compared to back then...
Other factors will decide the value nowadays though.

either

1. you missed my sarcasm (sorry i though it was obvious)

or

2. you really think that the number of people that want something (demand) that is in limited supply has no bearing on the price

i hope its 1 Wink
Lol I must admit I didn't read carefully enough to detect the sarcasm.

Edit: Reading it again I actually missed where you said it -couldn't- happen today. Cheesy

It's easily done. All my posts are 88% sarcasm and 44% sincere.

What tells you it's gonna happen fast?

everyone and their aunt have been waiting on their sidelines to catch the bottom, everyone convinced they are smarter than the next. like some huge game of chicken. these people *want* to buy. they are frightened. their fear just needs an outlet, right now they are afraid that they are catching a knife, but that will quickly change to the terror of missing the boat.

every move ever is made of that.

This. Once the greed of "man I could have bought at 350 yesterday" will be overtaken by fear of "oh my god I may miss this train completely" people start making hasty buy decisions, followed by hasty sell decisions when it turns around on a 5-minute candle, rinse repeat, because human emotions are the shortest route to poverty.

sgbett, does not it feel nice being a hodler and watching the things you've experienced twice already unfold on unsuspecting newbies? So much fun Smiley

It feels nice being a holder yes, because at todays prices I could not afford to buy 1/10th of what I have now, and it would be infinitely more risky.

However, I'm under no illusion that this is a sure bet. It's interesting watching newbies go through the process of figuring out how what the potential upside is, and how little they really have to risk. You don't need to be ALL IN, and once you figure that out you are set. Risk what you can afford to lose. Watch it go to the moon/up in smoke. Don't sweat.

Or be like mat. trade insanely. become neurotic the market is against you then finally throw in the towel and sit on the sidelines a trembling wreck. Wink

It's those people, the people that are ALL OUT, they are the people I don't get. They are convinced they can trade to win, and for a while I'm sure some do (and statistically some will continue to). Most won't. They could have just held and done alright.

Sure I've juiced my returns by skimming a bit off the top on the run ups and buying back a little on the downturns, but this accounts for tiny fraction of my pot.

It's all gambling, but if you are going to gamble, pick good odds, and manage your bankroll.

I still say buy, I still say hold, and I still leave in my sig where I called the bottom so you can see just how easy it is to be wrong. There is too much revisionism on these boards. This is just my bit of truth Smiley

(I also said buy at $800, and I suspect soon, that will end up having been good advice...)
Definitely think anyone will soon be able to make a profit who bought at 800. People who are in it for the long run will probably be rewarded sooner or later. Smiley

Just like the run up from $2 that you lived through.......yeah...that really took off didn't it.......2 years down the line from it of course.

$2 in mid nov to ~$7, 6 weeks later. It's not exactly a slow move up... if that happened today it would put us ~$1200 beginning of june.

That couldn't happen today though, there is hardly anyone left who wants bitcoin compared to back then...

It IS a lot of fun, honestly.  All these newbs coming on here thinking they know everything.

Ahhh, but we were newbs just a year ago.  We need to have some compassion.  Wink  I guess the only thing I can say is that we tried to learn from others mistakes and instead of panic selling just held on through the ups and downs.  I can honestly say I am very thankful we have done that!  Now we just calmly buy when we hit lows like a couple days ago.  It is still a bit depressing when the price drops but I am not too worried about it.

The fear of "missing the boat" actually has some truth to it.  Newbies would be better off just buying now.  We might drop a little, but this is about as low as it is going to get before the next big "bubble" "pump" "ATH" or whatever you want to call it. Wink

My favorite part is watching the FUD spreading bears get downright angry when the price starts climbing.

We're angry when price climbs because we will fall even deeper and with more casualties. Otherwise, only a fool wold be angry that bitcoin is going up.

Have you actually looked at the average Fool I a mean person in the public ??

Thats what gets me if its supposed to be so bad and painful then why are they hanging around crypto if not to just spread FuD

It's not too hard to believe that some of them are paid to post negative BS here.

Dont think we touched bottom yet. Do we?
For this crash, I think the bottom was reached at 400 USD, from now on I think it'll rise. But I don't think 400 is the lowest we'll see this year.

Wink

Looks like the run has come to a grinding halt at $460...

A new 24 hour high was made just ~1 hour ago.
$490 to $600 will be more of a grind, but today's rally probably isn't over yet.

Mark my words, there is going to be a very very heavy resistance at $1,000. Everyone who bought near there last time is going to cash out those coins. When we get towards 1k i wouldn't be surprised to see a quick correction back down towards the $800 range.
That is one possibility, another is that the media catches on bitcoin's resurgence to 1k, making headlines, driving more speculators and investors into the game... and up is the only way.

Bingo. I don't think the estimates of the next ATH being $10,000+ are too unrealistic.

Last January when BTC was at $13, I thought that the people shouting $100 were actually mentally insane. Amazing how perspective changes!

Exactly.
When BTC broke above $32 I thought there would be much more resistance at ~$75.
Last year was crazy....What will happen this year?  Smiley

$340/$13*$1100 = $28769 The new top Cool

This is probably right, but that certainly does not mean that it won't re-correct shortly and head to $2000+. As for me, I'm not taking the chance of selling at $1000, when $2000-5000 is right around the corner.

I see what you're saying but I think we should put some things into perspective. Last January bitcoin was for the most part completely unregulated, the IRS didn't care about it, China was free to do what they wanted and everything about bitcoin was super bullish. Then shit started to hit the fan with Gox and everything came crashing down from then on. For bitcoin to hit 1k again we'd obviously need some bullish news, but for it to exceed 1,000 we'd need something major to happen. I'd say the combination of the winklvoss ETF being approved, a lot of major VC moving in and China recalling their "restrictions" (which i'm not sure anyone even knows for sure what those are). That might be enough to break 1,000.

I wonder. For it to bust $1000 again it would require new buyers and fresh excitement. If it broke that barrier explosively then the psychology might change.

If you're feeling like a bag holder right now you might either be sucked into a new round of excitement yourself or be feeding a new buying frenzy.

Can't you read?  This is not about whether or not it will go up to $1000 - everybody knows that.  This is about how fucking fast it will get there.  The OP (who is brilliant) thinks it will go fast.  He notes the last times it went up as evidence.  What?  Are you dense?

Why will the 'big boys' get in a $465 and high volume?  They will get in when there is regulation and better trading infrastructure...

The Big Boys are a wide and diverse community. There are a lot of them, not all are institutions, and not all will be waiting for 'better trading infrastructure' when price is where it is and they can start building a really strong position today. By the time BTC trading has been fully integrated into forex brokerage or the institutional banking world it will be in the multiples of thousands/tens of thousands of dollars area. Many won't wait till that happens as the opportunity missed is potentially huge.

Two things I'm looking for right now are a strong break through the $465 level and for the volume to shoot through the roof.

If that occurs then the big boys are getting in. If the big boys are getting in it will be a free for all and waiting for a pull back may be fruitless. I think we need to see how this Daily candle plays out first though before getting too excited.
