Go one step further. After removing it entirely from its fancy thermally gimped and air restricted case, flip the top fan over so that it is blowing in the proper direction, DOWN!

no wonder mine were still getting hot when i put them on their side (with cases still on) and had a fan blowing air across them..

if the room is sealed and dust free then it is probably okay...

but there is a reason why a case was invented..

Had to LOL when i read this...  "room is sealed and dust free"   lol.  i dont think many miners are working at nasa, or a high end manufacturing facility.

21 rigs, all outside killing bugs and collecting pollen/dust.  still chugging along over 45g

Nice.. I have nothing against anybody.. just giving out my 2cents

I actually meant.. case as general.. like pc desktop/tower or any form of cases...
when i said case was invented.

plus im not talking about NASA.. now that is a lol..

just a dust free server room or controlled room would do good..

But if you say u got ur stuffs killing bugs while mining then good for you u got 2 birds in 1 arrow.

although i wouldnt expect that bow to keep shooting arrows for a very long time..

peace out!

In this case, the primary purpose of the case is to protect the components inside...from static, physical damage, children's pokey fingers, etc.

There are vent holes on every side.  In this instance, there doesn't seem to be much directed airflow.  Those very holes also allow the same amount of dust in as if it was naked.

I like running them without the case. Naked is always better in my opinion!

They will run cooler. The cases make them look nice but they trap in the heat.

On Some of my singles the USB port is almost two far in past the case to make a good connection and I had to resort to duct tape to keep them from vibrating out of their tenuous connection (the outer shell is a bit too far from the connector or not aligned).

Would they catch on fire and burn down into little ashen piles if the cases were taken off or does it even matter  - or would they run cooler ?

Thanks

David
