I think that more countries have a positive view on bitcoin than trying to ban it.
All the EU is a thriving land for bitcoin right now.

Iceland is more restrictive when compared to Russia.

I am pretty much sure Russia is going to be one of the last countries to be positively disposed to bitcoin!

Very few nations are currently "positively disposed to bitcoin". Russia is no better.

http://cointelegraph.com/post/bitcoin_moscow_conference_postponed#.U0KPTvl_tqU

Weird that i can't find that announce the article claims on the website of the conference...

Oh , wait it's your article...
Why don't you post it entirely here rather than posting your links?

Hmmm, maybe you just looking for another conference, cause it's too of them and one is still up?
that's sooooo weird........

The only thing regulations or bans do is make going from Bitcoin to fiat through banking institutions and vice versa much harder, if not impossible.

But that does nothing at all to stop peer to peer Bitcoin trade, which Bitcoin is designed to do.

Countries can ban Bitcoin all they want, it will be no more effective than banning BitTorrent or any other distributed technology has been in the past. For all the armies of lawyers, MPAA/RIAA lobbyist shills, and millions of dollars wasted, p2p filesharing is alive and well. Blockchains will simply put these proto-distributed applications or DAPPs into overdrive by monetizing them in a way never before possible. It is the missing ingredient in open source distributed platforms that can be applied to just about anything that can be considered a resource, whether it is a news feed or energy distribution.

Overall they are fools to think such actions will do anything other than push Bitcoin underground and give every incentive to develop digital smokescreens that keep the preying eyes of governments out of our lives.

There is a small difference ... for bitcoin to survive it needs to be used as a money transfer and then you will have to somehow exchange it to your local currency ( and doing so through localbitcoincs right now in my case it's 2x more costly for 2000 than WU) or to actually use it to buy stuff. And unlike people involved in filesharing , those merchants will be sitting ducks.

Unfortunately a whole real ban on usage all over the world will send bitcoin in a coma for a period.

But that won't happen.

The restrictiveness of the Russian regulations are overplayed by the media. BTC-E users are still able to withdraw fiat to Russian banks. Possession of BTC is under no threat. I think Russia is not as bad as China.

Their currency is tanking, so it makes sense for them to ban Bitcoin, which would only accelerate the process. They can't stop Bitcoin, but they can slow it down by banning the exchanges.

Haha, another piece of bullshit just has been published. Grin

August, when a post, containing the so-called “Law for cryptocurrency (bitcoin)” document, arrived on the Russian Public Initiative organization’s website. The document held some drafts of possible regulation of bit- and altcoins, although it was just a concept
"ubi jus incertum, ibi nullum" applies. We don't need any special permission from a government, especially if it's so flawed like this one.

So, if I understand you correctly all information in this article means nothing and everyone in Russia can use btc. like any american does? In this case I was wrong, and it means that everything related to crypthocurrency will be ok in Russia. So I feel kind of happiness about this country.
And as for your attide about this article (you called it stupid) I can't tell you anything about that, because I'm not the one who wrote this article.

Even though we don't need permission from government it's less difficult to use btc in country that is not against it, better be neutral to it that be the enemy of future financial instrument as BTC

I was the one who thought that Russia is not so bad as it seems to be. But after that article I changed my mind, and I can't stop asking myself - how they can be so, hmmm, stupid? Looks like Russia decided to end it's days of glory and become a sort of poor country, where noone wants to try something new, which, can actually save them.   Cry
