What is the US/Nato doing in those waters?

Well, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are NATO members so they can ask for US assistance to tackle a real or imaginary Russian threat. So the presence of a US warship is actually OK. Of course the Russians want to keep an eye on that ship, so their action is also OK. It's also a good opportunity for the western politicians and media to distract attention from their actions at home like getting involved in money laundering and then exempting each other from anti money laundering schemes or letting more third world savages into our countries. That's not quite so OK :/.

What is the US/Nato doing in those waters? Perhaps if Russians and China started sending their Navy towards the US they would also be buzzed by jets. And we could ask the same silly question " Why are those pilots so reckless and dangerous".

The US currently surfers from schizophrenia, it's so preoccupied with telling the rest of the world where their borders ought to be, but as Trump points out it has no control of its own.

Russia is state of mind.

Even pilots got balls like coconuts.
Putin again proved he will not be pushed arround.

Us destroyer on baltic sea? what he was doing overe there?

What else they are supposed to do? How the Americans would feel if Russian frigates and aircraft carriers were prowling the San Francisco Bay Area? My advise to the Americans is to mind their own business and get the hell out of Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Antarctica. We don't need the Americans playing world police.

I was going to write that when I first saw the subject!  Cool

There are 2 things worth remembering with regard to this fly-over:

1. Such fly-overs are a routine event. I read account from Russian naval personnel from the Pacific Fleet, telling that American pilots do such low fly-overs almost on a daily basis, and that you can almost set your clock by them.

2. The American ship, that was the subject of this particular fly-over is none other than USS Donald Cook (aka USS Donald Duck) - the ship that got completely blinded and incapacitated 2 years ago in the Black Sea by a single unarmed Russian jet, equipped with Electronic Countermeasures. This was a message, and judging by the publicity, the message was understood.

Some fun read here:

Quote
The infamous, long-suffering USS #DonaldCook got buzzed again – this time in Baltic Sea! Donald Cook has been snooping around 70 nautical miles off the coast of Kaliningrad, not too far from a Russian Baltic Navy base. On April 13, 2016 two unarmed Russian jets said hello by making 20 passes at an extremely low altitude, almost touching the water. They flew repeatedly right over and around the ill-famed American destroyer.

One notable thing: not by accident, this happened practically on the second anniversary of the first incident. On April 12, 2014 USS Donald Cook got buzzed 12 times by a single Russian Su-24, which didn’t carry any arms, except a mysterious device dubbed Khibiny. The electronic jamming device disabled ‘USS Donald Duck’s’ advanced AEGIS systems, causing panic on board and resulting in 27 sailors resigning commission.

...

PS: Hmm, and before that, on the 7th of April:

Tsk, tsk, tsk, NATO recon flying with transponders off...

The world looks to the States to help police the world and in doing so allow America to have more say and power over issues. Right or wrong turning away would be very bad for them, its already showing cracks.
Besides it was just a practice flight. Cheesy

America likes to act like the world police confiscating gold and natural resources as you go.

That is a very american point of view. It happens sometimes when interests in some countries coincide with american interests. Or with corrupt governments. Or other governments that don't represent the people. But most often it happens because america is more powerful and can force others to follow its orders. If they don't they become the next iraq, iran, syria, north korea, cuba, etc. Subject to sanctions, delegitimization, coups, or invasions.
Thought this was actually something they agreed to , but totally agree with the self serving aspects of policing the world. Maybe a American can confirm the policing the world mandate as I have read it but never understood why it is in place.

Watched the video of this and thought the pilots got balls of steel that close to the water and it was pretty impressive.
What got my attention was a story that ran along the bottom of the screen well I was watching about Putin making his address and answering questions yesterday.
They referred to the Q&A as scripted,so that was not leading in any way and then they showed this story about the planes.
Seems to be a uptick in garbage coming out about Russia to demonize them and for purpose has yet to be shown, but our media is working hard to make Russia seem out of control.
Really hope we are not entering a potential war as its getting old dying for some one to make a point of who is right.

Russia defends close encounter with U.S. Navy missile destroyer

Russia acted "in accordance with international rules" when its unarmed fighter jets had two close encounters with the USS Donald Cook in the Baltic Sea, Russia's Defense Ministry said Thursday.

Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov spoke to Russian state news agency Tass.
Initial reports indicate two encounters with the U.S. Navy-guided missile destroyer occurred Tuesday night in international waters.
One of the Russian jets flew within 75 feet of the U.S. ship's superstructure.
The Cook "encountered multiple, aggressive flight maneuvers by Russian aircraft that were performed within close proximity of the ship," the U.S. European Command said in a statement.
"We have deep concerns about the unsafe and unprofessional Russian flight maneuvers," the statement said.
The ship, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, had a Polish helicopter on board as part of routine training, according to a U.S. official, leading to speculation Russia was "sending a message to Poland."
A U.S. official described the Russian maneuver as "strafing runs" without firing any weapons. The unarmed Russian aircraft swooped in over the deck in the same flight profile that would have been used if an attack were underway.
