What are the best GPUs for mining altcoins? isn't it odd that there are GPUs priced at $1000 and even more but when you benchmark them you'll see that for mining they are not worth a penny Smiley

for now the best seems the 470 on zcash with its 120 sol, otherwise for nvidia you only have the 1060 3gb which cost a bit more and does only 65 sol or something

but consumption is lower for nvidia, because of no proper optimization also, anyway i would probably not buying a new rig now

How are you getting 120 on your 470? What mem straps/bios?

i don't have a 470 rig, but you can do 120 sol by using optiminer or whatver is called, it's another miner more optimized, check the thread on the zcash forum

Just noticed this on newegg

MSI RX 470 4GB for only $169.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137050

Then there are also rebates for other 470s which add up to around ~$170 also.

We sure all overpayed 2-3 months ago when we bought all ours.

I got some of those MSI armor cards they suck, best 470s i have found to be the g1 and windforce gigabyte cards nice backplate too

Yeah the GB is pretty good. Copper heatsink and nice backplate. 8 Pin etc.

they are trying to lower stock of 470s because AMD is not producing 470s anymore - they are producing 470D now which has lower power consumption... honestly if your going to buy a lot of 470's maybe its better to wait for the stores to get their 470D stock..............................   470D is already released by AMD but most sellers wont get stock until they get their current 470 stock down

I thought it was because of nv lowing prices but cool either way the price goes down.

Incorrect.

The 470D is only for Chinese market

you dont get the lower power consumption models?
just going off of what my supplier told me, so yeah I guess i dont know about the rest of the world
but your really getting thrown under the bus if you dont get the lower power consumption models

Price for the 470 still seems the same as $170.00

Which is still an amazing deal since I paid close to $220 when they first came out with shipping.

The Power Colour RX 480 is just $189. Is that a good card for mining the Etheruem or the ZCash?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There were law suits a while back that proved that but they  keep doing it and guess what it works they get market share at a cost but it doesn't hurt them  it does hurt us the buyer .

what company makes both CPU and GPU and does it well and the same company is all ways dogged by two other company's who have deeper packets because AMD cares while the rich company could careless .

I will admit the 470 and 480 were over priced not meant to be sold at the prices they sold at we can thank NV for making AMD lower the price but NV caused the high price in the first place . that how NV controls it and they just Showed it again .Those lower cards prices from NV were intended.  cool still won't get me to buy there cards.

Turns out they did this because Nvidia 1050 ended up being too cheap so they had to slash their prices. No better time to become a miner.

Only 6Gbps RAM though.  Most Rx 470 cards seem to have 7Gbps rated RAM.
