Make your 480rx mine coins so you can afford to buy the 490rx's when it comes out in September.
Then sell off the 480rx right before they are released to the market.
Problem averted. Wink

Right now, I'd give the 490 a 70% chance it will not be a huge jump in performance over a 480 for miners.

Reading the rumors - I somehow agree with you

Right now second hand market on RX 480 (especially on 8Gb version) is very favorable for selling. It will be great if it will not be affected by RX 490.

By some rumors RX 490 can appear on market by September - so let's see Smiley

thats too long for waiting this GPU, better im buying new Rx 470 to mining than waiting it so i can get faster ROI before buying RX 490 release  Roll Eyes

I'm a huge gamer and follow this stuff pretty closely, but I don't think most here realize that there won't be a "490". AMD is going to refresh the whole series and start with the 5xx. The 470 and 480 will return, but they'll be called the 570 (or something). They might be a straight re-brand, or they might have a minor tweak?

Either way, there will be a whole series released. GPU's that are both more expensive and cheaper than the current 4xx line. Much like what AMD did with the 7000 series -> 200 series -> 300 series.

I think that miners will be disappointed with 490/500 price/efficiency.
Some 1060 are already a good deal (for ZEC) at $189, maybe they will go to $169-179, but that's it.

470 and 480, if anything, might go paradoxically UP if 490/500 are priced at $500-600, but hash only at 40 Mh/s in ethereum and 400-450 in ZEC.

it's funny, but you can get R9 380 4gb for $100 or less and it does at least 20-22 mh/s

Bets time would be about month or so before release. Yes like others said 490 is high end card. But it will make price adjusments also in Nvidia camp, so 1070/1060 might drop in price and put more presure on 470/480 making drop in price.

Also there might be shrink of Vega 10 chip to Vega 11. Similary Polaris 10 and 11. Especially as GloFo 14nm process has ben matured and makes sense to release better mid-range card.

In last couple of weeks I have sold some 480's, sealed boxes that came as replacements to 390's went 25% below new price, they had 1-12 months warranty left.

Cards that had been mining went 30-40% below new depending if they had warranty left or not.

I was happy considering the price I paid for those original cards but if I had bought them new it would have been a lousy deal imo.

the 1080ti is rumored in the next 30-60 days. Once that releases there is expected to be a 1080, 1070, and 1060 price drop as Nvidia has historically done. Now the drop won't be much but it'll put the lower end cards in a more competitive light compared to the 480.

Imagine a $350 or less 1070? It's likely you'll see AMD react with the 480 price to a small degree.

but if the 490 is really designed to compete with the 1080, expect the 490 to come in at around $500 -- but will it be a high performance bump on the mining side?

Right now, I'd give the 490 a 70% chance it will not be a huge jump in performance over a 480 for miners.

For gamers? It'll probably compete with a 1080 and be about the same price.

Obviously release of this card will substantially affect on the second hand market of RX 480. When do you think it will be the best moment to sell ours used RX 480 cards?

That would be after the point of RX 480 ROI. Plus one would need extra to cover difference between used RX 480 selling price and new RX 490~500 price tag. I prefer 'mining' to cover all costs  Wink

I dont think 490~500 will be favorable my miners because I see it as GTX 1080 failure. Throw x2-x3 price tag and x2 power consumption and maybe some exotic memory to this mix, who knows how will it perform with crypto. Besides RX 480 is like only 6mo+ old in the market.

And I really think some guys in Nvidia/AMD camp monitor closely our 'mining communities' and they will make things good enough for us and them but not with the next top RX 490~500.

The bold part is true.

It will not affect the price of the 480 because its a high end card while the 480 is a medium level GPU.

Only the Fuji will be affected.

This card will be at least double the price of the 480.

Exactly this.
And i wouldn't bet on those cards, the price will be high along with high power consumption.
It will probably be even harder to get ROI on those, and you can imagine what kind of PSU's you would need to power a rig of 6x 300W TDP cards...

i think the next gpu will be focus to gaming not at mining, the next gpu will make 1080ti price down.

Surely it is still ages before the RX490 comes out?
lol

I still have to get an RX470 or Rx480 i have not decided yet - having a very hard time.
4GB 8Gb and then 2x cards or not and then the RX470 using less power ...i dont know im really stuck deciding.

Go for Rx 480 8GB but depends on your budget

The popularity of the card for mining is going to come down to the dollar per hash and power consumption.  It's the miners that are driving the market on the rx470 and rx480 so we will see where the pricing of second hand market goes.  But a shift in market strategy might change what happens.
