Nice testing, they might have a thermal cutoff on the chip that cleared once it cooled down. Still, that's not too far from "chip explodes and peels back", such is life.

Are there any blown S3 types out there? I'd be interested in seeing if/how they can be repaired.

Just a note / caution regarding overclocking the S3.
Last night I overclocked one at 256.25 for about 15 mins. It took 2 reboots before it worked, but I was able to O/C at 256.25 and was showing some nice numbers well over 500GH/s.
It didn't last long though as one of the cards went xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx after 15 mins ...  Temps didn't show anything horrible - only hit 45C.
Rebooting did nothing, power down & power up did nothing, and when it came back up only one chain showed in the ASIC Status area [gulp!!].
I powered it down for 15 mins (let caps discharge), powered back up, changed frequency to something lower (231.25), and it's all better ... once again hashing away.
Why go that high? ... It was a curiosity to see if it would go that high, yep, it does, but it doesn't like it.
Just glad I didn't kill off a board.
Cheers.

Not all S3's will overclock at 250 successfully and retain that frequency safely.

Keep those units at stock settings, you're getting ahead of the game whilst others are on stalemate Smiley
