Check out P2Pool as a starter option. Once you're in Th/s range seems to be the best way to participate in the BTC network, IMO.

I was in your situation about 8 months ago. The more I read about p2pool the more I liked it. I like that it promotes the distributed philosophy of Bitcoin.

How:
  1. Check out the "official" page for background  http://p2pool.in
  2. Find a node near you. suggestion: http://nodes.p2pool.co/
  3. Config your Miner.

 Enjoy, have fun!

http://www.kano.is small and nice! i gave up on eligius!

This pool gets my vote. it's really nice. One of my S5's is there.

Add another vote for Kano.is
No one can touch the support and luck

Simple really, PPS pools are taking a cut off the top. If they do not, they close down.
PPLNS only makes money when you make money.

No matter where you go, stay there for at least a month or two so you get somewhat of a good feel for what to expect.

https://www.antpool.com

https://www.f2pool.com/

http://p2pool.in/

http://mmpool.org

https://www.kano.is/

these are all good some take more then the other to get used to but all work well once you figure which one you like, i have used them all but like these 2 the best and use them the most .

For 256 sha altcoin mining if want to give that a shot, those two are about the best ones Ive found for that type of mining . i don't altcoin mine much any more, it's not really worth it unless you use Script miners.

PS there are more i have used but found these to be best to use.

Hello again everyone!

I just got my first bitcoin unit S5 up and running. I am trying to figure out what is the best pool to point my S5 at..

I am between nicehash and Slush's pool... Can someone recommend what is the best pool for me and how payouts work at each pool? In return I would be happy to point my S5 at your address for a little time if you can help me get up and running.

I also learned if you lower the frequency the fan is not as loud Smiley

If you lower the frequency, you will lose hashrate and the fan won't go down. This information is erroneous. There is a very little difference in temp when you underclock. What you must do, like i already told you is put a box fan to blow air through the fins and lower the fan speed.

For the fan as you were answered in the other thread, go to a pps pool or rented like f2p or nicehash. If you want the best payout % but don't need to be paid everyday, go to Kano.
