I had a similar issue with a whole second hand batch of S9s, most had the 2017 firmware, the only way i could successfully flash them was to the reset using the IP report and then immediately flash the firmware i want, you need to do this like really quick, 5-10 seconds after it boots , let me know if this works for you too.

* don't reboot after you perfurm the IP report reset, the miner will reboot itself, get a new ip and starts workin, as soon as it shows on the network you want to rush to flah it.

The IPReporter reset worked perfectly for most of the units, thanks!! Smiley

Will try flashing via SD with the others.

If you have the original controller made from 2 pieces it will not load the firmware.

Batches 1 ,2 ,3 and 4 were 2 parts not one.  You may also find that even if you get the new controller and load firmware you will find a no pic error and the boards default to that.

I have a batch 1 s9 it has 1 working board and a c5 controller.

If you swap the boards to a newer s9 with the new firmware the gear defaults to,freq 550 does about 100 watts a th but they run cooler .

So I run my batch one s9 at freq 550 set to LPM

Have you tried resetting the miner through IPreporter button? Try this by holding it for 15 to 20 sec after running it for 5 minutes.

If it still doesn't work the other solution is to flash it through SD card. You can find the complete procedure from here S9 series (S9, S9i, S9j, S9 Hydro) Control Board Program Recovery

Do this first before you try replacing control board.

I would try a different control board that you know is good, so that you can tell if the hashboards are damaged or not.

Ok I will try that then. I was just wondering if I could do something else before swapping boards and stuff Smiley

Will let you know. Thanks!

I bought a used S9 13.5Th (not S9i nor S9j) last week and I'm having some issues trying to upgrade it to the latest firmware. That wouldn't be much problem per se, but with the current firmware it's not even hashing (shows 0.0Gh/s). Right now it has the version from May 3rd 2017, which let you chose the frequency (550,600,650). Here you have the Sytem details:

Code:
Miner Type                 Antminer S9
Hostname                   antMiner
Model                         GNU/Linux
Hardware Version      16.8.1.3
Kernel Version            Linux 3.14.0-xilinx-gb190cb0-dirty #57 SMP PREEMPT Fri Dec 9 14:49:22 CST 2016
File System Version    Wed May 3 18:58:52 CST 2017
BMminer Version        2.0.0
Uptime                        9:33
Load Average             0.17, 0.29, 0.35

So far I have tried:

  • Restart from GUI
  • Reset from GUI
  • Reset using button
  • Replacing PSU with a know good one
  • Upgrading to ALL S9 firmwares from Bitmain download page --> ALL of them failed to install, "Incorrect Firmware!!" - including the firmware that right now is installed  Huh
  • Also tried the Antminer S9 Fix Upgrade firmware -->  "Incorrect Firmware!!"

Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Smiley
