Titanic OST for sure

Yes.   For an orchestral track that has a little harmony in it does sound very sad.  Every since that movie I can always recognize Horner's work since he uses a lot of the same styles in other movies.  Never An Absolution is right up there (for being down there).

If you can watch the movie (or listen to the album) The Wall without feeling sad you may want to check yourself for a pulse. Or maybe you have become Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - The Wall

I too think Eminem's Stan is a very sad song, but I think Eminem - Space Bound is even more so.

Since I could go on forever listing sad songs, I'll just add One that you probably wouldn't think of. Metallica - One

son of a bitch how did i forget that one??? He made that song right after his son fell out of the window and died. Great song indeed!

Want to add
Elvis Presley-In the Ghetto
Tupac-Changes
Pink Floyd -Wish you were here
Eminem-Stan
Prince -Purple Rain

how can be Stan or Wish you were here be the saddest song? :v

ok, they are sad, but both of them talks about 1 single person...

Try alice in chains - nutshell, or even pink floyd - sorrow.

Hard to say what is the saddest song as I've never really thought about it, but there are parts of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody that are pretty sad, but I really love the song overal and the change in tempos.

good taste Dank with Pink floyd. Speaking of Pink Floyd where is My song you said you would cover?

Which one?

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Wink
Yes i do. Great singer. not many people here would probably relate to her though.

LOL that's the lyrics to the song.

Vera (Waters) 1:38

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Remember how she said that
We would meet again
Some sunny day?
Vera! Vera!
What has become of you?
Does anybody else here
Feel the way I do?

I remember Vera Lynn not a tribute to her.  Smiley I'll have to listen to the song you are referring to though.

What?! What?!  Shocked

You've never listened to the wall?

Go download the entire album. Songs from the wall should not be listened to in isolation.
Holy shit how did i miss that?!?!?!
Hahahaha Pink floyd kicks ass yes i have heard it. WTF you got me on that one lmao!

My Choice - Vera Lynn: The White Cliffs of Dover

Quote
Dame Vera Lynn, DBE (born Vera Margaret Welch on 20 March 1917),[1] widely known as "The Forces' Sweetheart" is an English singer, songwriter and actress whose musical recordings and performances were enormously popular during the Second World War.

Holy shit! She's still alive at 97.

Try :

Coldplay - Yellow
Adele - Someone Like You
Israel Kamakawiwo - Over the Rainbow

One of my favorites: OFFICIAL - Somewhere Over the Rainbow 2011 - Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole

I remember that song from Meet Joe Black.  In that movie it is very grim, but just listening to the song alone it's actually a little uplifting.

Johnny Cash - Hurt

That song is by Nine Inch Nails! The Cash version is fine, but why do people always forget about Nine Inch Nails when talking about it? Is Cash's version really that much better?

Because Johnny Cash died right after that was released. It was like his sung his own requiem mass. If you watch the video it shows a lot of the mistakes he made in his life especially with June Carter. I don't think it's sad as much as it's creepy.

I Lost All My Bitcoins
by Big Fuckin Crash

Seriously Shannon is the saddest song I ever heard. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R5Wpn3dFrEs

Quote
Here's a great song from our friend Henry Gross about a Big Red Irish Setter named Shannon. The story goes that back in the day when Beach Boy Brian Wilson was bedridden with depression, NOTHING could get him out of his bedroom. His family and friends after time were befuddled, fit to be tied and had no idea how to help their friend and brother. Finally, a family friend came by and gave Brian a little Irish Setter Puppy that Brian named Shannon.
Well guess what? Shannon's charisma and love got Brian out of bed, and not only out of bed but he was actually active. In fact, Brian and Shannon romped on the beaches of Southern California daily for months. Brian and Shannon would play in the surf., finally Brian's life was coming back together and happiness surrounded him with Shannon's love. Until one horrible day when Shannon was carried out to sea and never to be seen again. Brian's heart was broken and he was crushed. Needless to say, Beach Boy Brian Wilson was bedridden again.
This is a beautiful song by Henry Gross, if you listen to the lyrics, you can picture Brian and Shannon playing in the surf.

Second runner up is Honey. His wife died. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=59BZxgohr9g

Quote
See the tree, how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig
Then the first snow came
And she ran out to brush the snow away
So it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all excited
Slipped and almost hurt herself
And I laughed till I cried
She was always young at heart
Kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved her so
And I surprised her with a puppy
Kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago
And it would sure embarrass her
When I came in from workin' late
'Cause I would know
That she'd been sittin' there and cryin'
Over some sad and silly late, late show
And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
If only I could
She wrecked the car and she was sad
And so afraid that I'd be mad
But what the heck
Though I pretended hard to be
Guess you could say she saw through me
And hugged my neck
I came home unexpectedly
And caught her cryin' needlessly
In the middle of the day
And it was in the early Spring
When flowers bloom and robins sing
She went away
And honey, I miss you
And I'm bein' good
And I'd love to be with you
If only I could
One day while I was not at home
While she was there and all alone
The angels came
Now all I have is memories of Honey
And I wake up nights and call her name
Now my life's an empty stage
Where Honey lived and Honey played

And love grew up
And a small cloud passes overhead
And cries down on the flower bed
That Honey loved
And see the tree how big it's grown
But friend it hasn't been too long
It wasn't big
And I laughed at her and she got mad
The first day that she planted it, was just a twig

Since there was a mention of no good topics I thought I would make one for what was going through my head.  I was listening to Pandora and noticed that a lot of the old songs I listened to when I was younger were really sad.  I remember back in med school one of my classmates told me about a Natalie Merchant song called My Beloved Wife - to this day I would say that still takes the cake for the saddest song I have ever heard.  Basically it would be the equivalent to the opening scene of Up where the man loses his wife of so many years.

So please share whatever song you feel is a real downer or at least draws a lot of sympathy or empathy.
