good advice; I turned the fan up to 100% and underclocked the memory as you suggested which gave me an increase of an average 5 Mh/s & the temp. dropped about 4C. thanks!!  Smiley

Your welcome, you'll pick these things up over time, I had never overclocked anything until doing mining and some people make it out to be some scary process but ultimately if your not messing around with voltage you should be able to push things further and further

Hey,

I'm not an expert here, but I run 2 6950 cards in my rig things I know:

You shouldn't ideally go over 80c, 85c from what I understand these should be your max temp ideally, you can go over but once they hit 90-100 they start to cook complete, personally I run mine around 69-73 but I run my machine with the fan on high for the sake of keeping the temps low at all times.

You should actually be unclocking the memory, memory isn't used at all, I've not worked out the science of this but basically mine without the memory underclock wouldn't mine in a stable manner, and it's also the memory that adds a lot of heat, I underclock mine to 795Mhz.

My main thought is, 300Mh/s seems low for that card (you can guestimate what you should be doing from here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison), maybe you should try a better miner like CGminer or look to use Linux rather than Windows if your in this for the real mining experience.

I just started GPU mining with a Radeon R7850 (Ultra OC Edition). I'm using Bitminter for now since I'm a noob before I move on to dabble in scrypt mining and have a few questions.

1) First and most importantly I plan on mining 24/7 so I need to know what is a "safe" temperature to do this at.

I've maxxed out the GPU clock setting and am getting slightly above 300 Mh/s at 74C.

2) As I understand it the Memory Clock setting is not crucial for SHA-256 but is important for scrypt mining. I tried to max out the Memory clock setting while the GPU was at maximum but it crashed. Is this just a setting I should tweak once I am scrypt mining?

3) Let me know if there is something glaringly wrong I am doing or can improve upon:

Thanks. Feels good to start mining.  Grin
