I was wondering if it is safe to accept PayPal payments if I require the buyer to mark the payment as a gift. As per PayPal's terms they do not offer buyer protection for any transactions marked as gifts.

It is never safe to accept PayPal payments for bitcoins. ANY payment can be reversed if the PayPal account had been compromised. And believe me, there are lots of those out there.

Please see the main thread for this topic.

absolutely not. there's still tons of counterparty risk with paypal.

isn't that why you're here in the first place? bitcoin's irreversible transations eliminate alot of counterparty risk.

For example, me. I need "download" my money from bitcoin to dollars or euros and the easy way to do that is to offer bitcoins for a paypal deposit. I hope that arrives the time when will be not necessary to use credit cards and bitcoin will be the standard currency to Internet transactions.

An honest person can't reverse a gift transaction.  But a scammer will just blame TEH EVIL BITCOIN HACKERZ and paypal will reverse the charge.

I think it's possible to make a transaction in that way but you depends of buyer's will.
