Leading cryptocurrency analysis company Santiment mentioned interesting data about some altcoins in its latest report.

In their analysis, Santiment analysts argued that Gala (GALA), Apecoin (APE), MAGIC and Serum (SRM) tokens are in the oversold zone with largely negative trader earnings, and this situation will eventually need to be corrected.

According to the charts provided by analysts, the leading altcoins experiencing the opposite of this situation are Bluzelle (BLZ), Loom Network (LOOM), Maker DAO (MKR), Merit Circle (MC) and StormX (STMX).

The Sharpe ratio is a way to analyze the performance of an asset by adjusting its returns based on how bumpy the road was to those returns.

Where We’re Going

Using that methodology along with data from Santiment for 34 ERC20 assets - I see excellent results with nearly 23 times return since Nov'2017. What is interesting is that last sell signal came on 8th May 2018 and it continued till 7th January 2019. And now the buy signal that came on 7th Jan 2019 continues.

Token Distribution Ratio: New Performance Indicator for Crypto? [Santiment Analysis]
One of the most recent metrics we at Santiment built for ERC-20 projects is the Top Holders Distribution. It gives an overview of the top 5-100 wallets of any ERC-20 token in our database since the ICO, both in net value and as a percentage of the token’s total supply.

Market Wars: Comparing the Performance of Top Crypto Industries

If our recent analysis of the Ethereum vs ERC-20 market cap taught us anything, it’s that there’s still not enough info out there to help people grasp the many relative scales of the crypto market.

To fix that, we decided to take a closer look at 11 biggest segments of the crypto industry, compare their performance over time and give you a bird’s-eye view of their respective size and development.

At Santiment, we typically categorize the 1100+ projects in our database into 51 separate categories. Of course, comparing 51 different anythings is inherently problematic, and would be terribly noisy.

Instead, for this analysis, we bucketed all crypto assets into 11 broader market segments or buckets, based on the projects’ overarching themes and industries. Here’s our master list:

The Method

So how do we truly compare the relative and absolute performance of these 11 market segments?

If you said market cap, we’ve got some bad news. As an example, here’s what happens when we plot absolute market cap values over the last 2 years for each market segment:



The first (and pretty much only) thing you see are two massive outlier categories, towering over everything else. The big purple line, of course, are currencies, including BTC which by itself makes up ~50% of the crypto marketcap. The blue line marks crypto platforms, counting the biggest market Dapp solutions like Ethereum and EOS.

Exclude these two, and we can at least see the correlation between other industries a bit more clearly, with privacy coins (spearheaded by Monero) edging out the rest throughout the observed time frame (last 2 years):

Maker DAO Network Analysis: Dissecting Crypto’s Hottest Stablecoin

Let’s begin with a basic overview of the MKR network:

    Lifetime total of MKR transactions: 83264
    Lifetime total of addresses that ever touched MKR: 7513
    # of current MKR holders: 5235

If we further break down those 7513 addresses by the # of completed MKR transactions, we get the following spread:

    1 trx: 1758 addresses (23.4%)
    2 trx: 2102 addresses (28.0%)
    3 – 5 trx: 1513 addresses (20.1%)
    5 – 10 trx: 1124 addresses (15.0%)
    >= 10 trs: 1016 addresses (13.5%)

That said, we believe the above graphs indicate that the bulk of the DAI isn’t currently being purchased via CDPs – but rather on exchanges.

This stands to reason, as the lack of an intuitive UI for smart contracts still presents a significant barrier to entry for the less tech-savvy market participants. For many, the easiest way to acquire DAI remains circumventing the CDPs entirely, and turning to the exchanges instead.

This hypothesis is also consistent with the presented trx volumes. What it means for the widespread adoption of the proposed MakerDAO system, remains to be seen.

Note: We reached out to the MakerDAO team for comments and clarifications prior to the publication of this analysis, but have not heard back as of yet. If or when they respond, we’ll be happy to add their comments to the article accordingly.

This feature became hot late this past summer, when “ICO projects dumping ETH” became somewhat of a meme as ETH’s price suffered sharp declines. We’ve been tracking this metric for awhile, but it definitely saw increased attention over the last few months and could still be of interest during a project’s lifecycle.

Introducing Social Trends – New Tool for Crypto Social Insights
Not all chatter is created equal, however. To filter out the noise and only present relevant results, we focused on channels where at least 90% of all discussions center on crypto. This includes:

    Over 300 different Telegram channels (not tracked by google or any other search engine)
    Crypto subreddits
    Discord channels (not tracked by google or any other search engine)
    BitcoinTalk
    Private trader chats hidden from Google search
    … and more to be added!

To further specify your searches, you can use a variety of modifiers including OR, AND, and parentheses (). For example:

    btc moon – will search for that exact phrase.
    btc AND moon – will search for messages where both words appear, regardless if they’re next to each other or not.
    btc OR moon – will search for messages where either word appears.
    (btc OR bitcoin) AND moon – will search for messages where moon appears either with btc or Bitcoin

(P.S. this graph includes a small ‘hack’ – the results are usually plotted against the price of either BTC or ETH, but you can in fact plot the price of any coin in our database. All you need to do is add ‘?asset=coin_name_in_our_database’ to the result url and voila! As you can see in the example above, we simply added ‘asset=maker’ to plot the social results directly against the price of MakerDAO.)

Our DAA and Dev Activity data – now free!

For the first time, we are making all historical data for Daily Active Addresses (DAA) and Dev activity available for free, for every ERC-20 project listed on SANbase as well as via our API.
To our knowledge, this is the most comprehensive set of data for these two metrics currently on the market.

You can access the data by visiting Sanbase, and selecting any token. Devs and those that would like to contribute to our platform- find out how you can take advantage of our API here.

Plus we have a few more updates to share (developers, researchers and data scientists, we’re looking at you in particular). But first, let’s talk about what nearly everyone has been asking us since SAN was minted on July 4, 2017 — when can I actually use my SAN, and what for?

Well, the wait is over. Now you can log into SANbase and check out our first experiments (“beta” status, we’re still trying out ideas) in blockchain integrations that require SAN staking to use:

New Sentiment data feed:
Visit any token’s detail page and you’ll see a Sentiment metric that you can plot against price. This metric is based on an aggregation of sentiment measurements for the crypto market in general, and currently requires a stake of at least 1000 SAN to access.
