5830 are not OOS , and they're not that efficient at mining.

No, they aren't as efficient as a 5850 & use slighty more power. But they are efficient enough. The hash-rate per unit is important.

And yes, they are out of stock in Canada almost everywhere.

Really?  I'm 50% sure the newest Sapphire ones (Extreme Series) had the voltage circuitry re-done so as not to suck as much juice as the 5870

But even if I'm wrong on that point, I still have mine hashing 305 million hashes per second, which is faster than some people can get out of their 5850's.

Hashing power will plateau, especially when ATI is having problems keeping up with demand.  When the 5830/5850 are gone, people will look to higher end cards that are still in stock like the 6950 and 6970.  It will just get more and more expensive to get into mining and expand the farm if the decent video cards are out of stock.  (One will need to spend more $ to get 1 Mhash than before)

This might be a good thing, slow down the hashing power, for a chance to catch some breath.

I was procuring cards earlier this week and was told by one of my suppliers that 5850s are not available in their distribution channels at all, and never will be again. Several orders I have placed with different retailers have either been partially filled or outright cancelled. Newegg had a few Gigabyte 5850s show up on Tuesday *very* briefly. I was only able to acquire 2 of them, unfortunately.

I idly wonder if network hashing power will plateau for a bit because there is severe card shortage.

Thanks for the info!

I hesitate 1 day and all of the 5830's were gone. AMD/ATi should really be paying bitcoin something Smiley

Since it looked like Sapphire was one of the last ones left that might still be producing some of the 5850's/5830's I dropped by their site and put in a support ticket to see if I can get any information.

This is not a specific technical support issue. I'm just wondering if you are still producing the Radeon 5850 and/or the Radeon 5830's. I'm working on a project that these cards excel at compared to other cards and they've appeared to have sold out just about everywhere. I know this is an older generation card, but are you still producing these, or is it that the current stock is gone, these cards are no longer available? Thanks!

This is the response I got.

No this card is no longer available.

Looks like it's official.  5850/5830 Sapphire's are done. Tongue
