To confirm, the cards will run fine with 8 pin power, you can alwas upgrade to a split --8 to 2+6 & 2+6
or to buy sata/molex to 6 pin cable for the optional power.

Sometimes the mobo doesnt like it when only 1 x 8 pin power connected. I have that problem on one of my nvidia GPUs. Big white letters on-screen when booting. Have to connect the 6 pin aswell..

If properly optimized, you may get around 120-140w consumption on the wall with those gpus.
It's a little bit different between optimized and safer, I really didn't have experience with this card. But in my opinion, "safer" means we can keep our device for long terms. I also a little bit agree with you, optimizing will reduce operational cost with more profit of course.

Since TDP's is 180 watts, safer to connect all connector. PCIe 1X will produce max 25 watts, PCIe 16X will produce max 75 watts. Will be better if you connecting the additional 6pin power. More space safer.

Hi,

Plese help!!! So I am building new mining rig with 6 Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8GB cards.  All GPUs in my other rigs are Asus strix RX 480 or 580.
When I unboxed GPUs I was surprised to see that these Sapphire Nitro models use 8 pin and 6 pin connectors.
So my question is do I need to connect only 8 pin or 6 pin as well??
I googled a little bit and I can see that other users connected only 8 pin connector?
I don't get it why because there is also 6 pin connector required for GPU to run as expected or am I wrong?
I am mining ETH.

Thx in advance

this question already posted previously, 6 pin is optional, you dont need really to connect both, just use the 8pin and you'll ok.
