The number of children living in a conflict zone has gained a momentum raise from 200 Million (i.e. 75%) in the early 1990s to more than 420 million children by 2018. Children living in such conflict-impacted areas often lack access to quality education, healthcare services, a better social life, and are more exposed to violence. In fact, most of the time, they are still too young and vulnerable to understand what’s happening around them and how to defend themselves against the danger. Often alone, helpless, and confronted with the chaos, many of them are deeply traumatized, wounded, and even disabled.
Especially, what’s currently happening between Ukraine & Russia has created brutal impacts on the children residing in the conflicted zones. Children are living with unspeakable horrors and devastating consequences.
In particular, more than 12 million refugee boys and girls now face triple jeopardy. Not only have they lost their families and homes, they now face the additional impact of COVID-19 on their futures.
Apart from that, about
• 168 million children are victims of forced labor.
• 215 million children are engaged in child labor.
• 115 million of those children are involved in hazardous work.
And it doesn’t end here. Children are often trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation. They’re forced to fight in conflicts, risk their lives, and are deprived of what every child deserves — A Better World.
Where all children’s safety remains at the topmost priority, they can access quality basic education, war and violence against children is not tolerated, and no young child dies from a preventable cause.
