Why would people go about spreading fake news, especially on such a popular forum where facts can easily be verified

I just talked about this with someone that is following SIA on all the channels and this is not true. As many people already have said, its fake news, nothing more. There will be a hardfork, but no airdrop.

This is fake news.

There will be hardfork of Sia in approximately 6 weeks (at block 139000) to correct a bug in the latest Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm. But it will not be an "airdrop" as it will not be a contentious hard fork: all the users, exchanges and miners will adopt the new consensus rules (included in the upcoming 1.3.1 release), so the legacy blockchain will be abandoned.

Please, stop spreading confusion among users and cite your sources whenever you announce something as important as this
Thanks for the info Hakkane.
However, I'd like to point out that you failed to cite the source of your own information too.
So, we now have two conflicting reports with no sources cited...hmm....

Fair enough.

These are some posts from the official Discord server of Sia. @Taek is the CEO of Nebulous (company developing Sia). In the first post he announces for all the beta-testers the new RC2 version of the upcoming software 1.3.1 of the client (it will be released in a few days officially) and some of its features, including the fork at block 139000. In the second and third posts I ask about the ETA of that block and he answers that in about 6 weeks.

BTW, I am a moderator of the Discord server of Sia and the author of the website siastats.info , so I am in the loop of everything happening in Sia.

Besides, if there was to be a hardfork with an airdrop, don't you think there would have been more general announcements from the developing team like in the last hardfork of last week?

@Hakkance thank for clarifying the issue, I was wondering why the team will opt for airdrop because to me the current number of tokens in circulation is high in my opinion so why do they need to dilute the price the more
