I agree. Even some airdrop listings are scam! For example at www.airdrops.io all the rating figures are cooked! There is supposed to be a honest rating system where everybody can vote (+ or -). A project can go from -100 points to 500 in less than an hour and the opposite is true also. There must be corruption there. Some CEOs buying the ratings. I don't trust those now. I personally make my own due diligence and do not check those rating list scams.

Hi guy! It's easy and fast to do the airdrop, which makes us less interested in project information. So we get more scams. certainly so. I can not sit all day to see information on a project that I will do airdrop. That only wasted my time, while the amount received from the airdrop was too small

Yes it is currently a lot of helprop hoax or a lot of aidrop currently many coin coins do not sell in the market and no price can be called a junk coin just to meet my meo wallet only. so it is rather difficult to distinguish a good aidrop or a fake aidrop. it needs more understanding and knowledge to know it

What is the purpose of a scam airdrop?  I thought they were supposed to be free Smiley
Airdrops now is very hard.. You can't get a free if you don't donate..

Those things above should really be on mind that if we do talk about airdrops it should really be free but we do see some projects do ask to sent out ETH before you would able to claim those free tokens which its really dumb for you to send anything just to get out those tokens. If someone do ask then its a 100% scam and they are just taking advantage for those noobs who havent much experience or knowledge into things and carelessly done these things and later on they do realize that they had been scammed already.

A lot of good points made about airdrop scams in this thread. I have an airdrop telegram network and one of the resources I use to test an airdrop before posting is to check if the airdrop and website url has malware. I use this tool for that: https://app.webinspector.com/public/tasks

You pay nothing to receive airdrops (free coins) , however you share data . so only share relevant info to such airdrops , don't share kyc detail , use secondary email , never share private key , never share complete details about you . If you follow such steps then you will lose only 2-5 minutes of time but not the money .

I think that the airdrops that are usually suspected of being scma have these characteristics:
1,You are asked to make a donation, some are mandatory, some are voluntary, but if you see an airdrop form requesting a donation, you can close it. they are 99% scmas.
2,Ask you to register on their website and provide your personal information, this is to defraud your personal information, don't do it.
3,Inviting other people, this is not exactly a scma, but usually this can only get very few coins, almost no value, equivalent to scam.

it is very vulnerable to the name of airdrop because the legality is less for us to believe, from all that there are some who can produce from our list on airdrop but more without producing results, even we who can get stuck the same requirement to ask for key wallet or recording email password.

I think that there is no best method to know wheter an AIRDROP is a SCAM. But the best way to avoid being scam by it is not to invest on it. I have joined a lot of Airdrops but if it requires an amount of donation i always turn it down. Because what i know about Airdrops is that it is for free.

airdrops dont requires investment and if it does then thats not an airdrop anymore because airdrop is actually means free give away of coins. also airdrops dont have the potential to scam people as they only need to give away thier coins and dont want a return or an offering. although airdrops in a nutshell is not  really worth it or profitable at all becuase their tokens or coins usually dont have a meaningfull value. much better if you can just focus here in the forum to join some profitable camapaigns or social media camapigns that pays in bitcoin per week.
Correct, airdrop does mean you do gain free tokens with that program and when you do talk on investing money on the project already then it would really be consider to be part of the ICO. Most people do think of that airdrop would be comes scam.We do know that it cant be turn out to be scam if you dont invest nothing which means you are only risking out your time and effort. In the end its your choice if you decide to get free tokens or not as long you wont tend to make any investments then then tendency or making up to use the word scam isnt appropriate.

Most airdrop are legits and they dont scam at all you will always left behind when you dont follow up the airdrop telegram channels
people who always complain of airdrop scam are just inactive during follow up and you cant expect them to be perfect that is why they introduce their telegram channel for you complains and corrections, see is not easy to do the spreadsheet thing and calculations, my conclusion is always follow up what ever medium they tell you to follow up ok.

To be on the safe side, don't participate on any airdrop that requires donation or sensitive information

Exactly, a large and honest project will not ask the campaign participants to ask for donations. That as my reference so far, thereby reducing the risk of risk scam.

Airdrops are clear that they are free to received by filling up some forms and if they ask for anything other than that then it's 100% scam. No websites is also the easiest to determine that they are scams.

some airdrops sometimes requires their participants a small fee in order for them to be eligible and they only doing it just to avoid abusers and cheaters however some them are just scam , so better be cautious on joining them whether it is free or paid make sure you do your own research first regarding to them if they are legit and have an official website and announcement thread.  overall much better if can just join the free ones to avoid  much stress in your mind.

almost all of them is scam and just want to take money from investors thats why they created a token .  i suggest not to invest in any of them if you are investors try to find a legit project.
It's hard to find good airdrop, but i'm sure a few of them has potential, for instance Byteball already proved a lot and definitely is one of the good airdrop project. Somewhere on bitcointalk I saw the list of airdrops so it could be useful too. However as you said, the most of them will be probably waste of time

In some AIRDROPs there is a line "enter your private key" ... It's always been wondering if there are people who are being led to this deception Roll Eyes

that is likely to be a scam or phising attempt to steal your coins and balance in your wallet. always remember airdrops or any other giveaways and bounties dont requires you to input or expose your private keys publically because rather they only need your public address or  wallet address to be able for you to recieve your coins/tokens if your qualified for them. and yes majority of people especially newbies are always getting fall from this trap and they are always ended up getting hacked.

Asking for details that you mustn't give or mustn't be asked. These airdrops are also being used by scammers to make people believe that they will receive free tokens/coins. To know if they are scam is up to your deepness on how you will study about that scam, if you know notice that some are not asking for ETH address and only asking for email address and when that happened to you then doubt them.

Might sound crazy, but this is how I gauge scam airdrops. I ask them, straight up. Then I don't pay any attention to what their answer is. I pay attention to how they answer.
Are scam airdrops really the problem though? They are, (cue random statistic) 98.6% of them anyway, going to be future shitcoins. So don't give them your money, they have plenty, from the 60% owners share. Get your free tokens and bounce out. close the damn Telegram group, unfollow their twitter and facebook, then sell the shit out of that shitcoin. Rinse. Repeat. Happy.
Cool approach to the issue. I'm interesting in how much time you spend for this kind of airdrop testing and what is the financial result.

what is the best method to know SCAM [AIRDROPs] Huh PROJECT
There are lots of Airdrop who are currently running nowadays, but it is very rare to find one who are legit.
There are ways to determine whether a Airdrop is a scam or legit..
These is what i know
I may say it is a scam if there are requiring you to send your Private Keys, by these you really are sure it is a scammed.
They are representing unknown and an unbelievable Tokens, these are just taking all your personal information and use this basic information to scam you.
If they are also requiring you to send any private information such password and keys.

How airdrop can be scam?
You say "they want to take money from investors" but airdrops are free as far as I know. Something what comes for free can't really be scam.
ICO can be scam but that is something else.

no, its not. airdrops which requires donation are not all scam. the main reason why they are doing that is to avoid cheater or the ones who abuse the airdrop because of multiple claims. though some are requires you hold a certain amount of eth on your wallet in order for them to send the coin without charges or fees , in short your going to shoulder the transaction fees. @op i dont really understand your question. do you mean your going to scam an airdrop project? no, you cant scam them rather they can scam you.

Methods? Not sure about that. All of those who are using google forms for airdrops are maybe scams. If they are that legit they can add an airdrop option on their site. BUT there are many established tokens/alts who are having airdrops because of the support of it's members/holders. I suggest just beware on what information you are putting on those forms cause that can be used against you. Also if the token name is really shitty and their ANN is underdeveloped without it's website I strongly suggest just get rid of it.

etherdoge was a scam... the scammers distributed the airdrop to ethereum wallets but put a lock on the tokens so that they could not be sent.

if folks tried to send tokens, the transaction would fail and the user would still be charged gas

meanwhile, the devs liquidated a whole bunch on etherdelta to unsuspecting buyers

There's no way to know if those airdrops are scams.  All of them looks the same when it comes to airdrops.

Knowing who are the scams is hard to do. Even how hard you try to do some deep research that's not enough.

But if the devs are busted and familiar for scamming, you can figure it out that airdrop is scam.

what is the best method to know SCAM [AIRDROPs] Huh PROJECT

If you can see that the OP in the airdrop is requesting for a donation for verification purposes then that is a red flag for me. It is hard to really determine if an airdrop is a scam or not because some are just genuinely offering free coins to introduce it to the community. I know that with the airdrop announcements every now and then, it is not impossible that there is a scam airdrop just to get some information or donation from people but there are some who are legit because I myself join some airdrops too and receive the tokens so some of them upon being listed in an exchange, the developers just dump their coins while others are genuinely doing some development in their projects and the prices shoot up as well.

Methods? Then your awareness is just a simple stuff that would help you out and determine which is a scam project or airdrop. Research up things and if you do find that its somehow fishy and doesnt have a clear roadmap or plans then better doubt on it but since you do talk about airdrops then it does mean you are not risking something or money since we dont invest we are just making task or required informations for us to join on these drops. As long they are not asking too much personal then each airdrop is worth trying to join on but dont expect too much from them since most of those coins are just total crap.

Maybe we could start a list of scam airdrops where developers just collected your info like email, twitter and so on and than they didn't distribute coins or they did but abandoned the project soon after.
Until now i have never seen any ICOs doing what you suppose. The only distrust among members is that some ICO developers are not able to manage the project efficiently and this results the token putting in lesd demand. So far i have participated nemerous airdrops and i have never been scammed they as you think. Of course some tokens don't give you good profits but many have good potentials and they last longer

None of the airdrops are going to say straight up "I'm a scam - buy my shitcoin/shittoken and I'll give you nothing muhahahah!"

Some have a obvious flags of unprofessionalism, and others are just out to steal from you using sophisticated techniques. But the S word isn't something to throw around for everything that doesn't work out.

Some airdrops will never pan out as the idea behind it never gained traction, for whatever reason, and others just might not of had a good enough idea for anyone to believe in in the first place.

Look for things that don't appear very professional. Spelling mistakes for me annoy me immensely in marketing of any kind. Everyday talk, yeh thats fine, but if a project wants me to give them money of any kind then they can take the effort to proof read. Also an airdrop should not be the first thing an upcoming ICO does. First up they should have a relatively well thought out and professional looking website at the least, and some support contacts, and a basic roadmap. The creation of the token for airdropping should not be needed to be created until well after they've got their idea off the ground. If it all looks like it was hashed together over a beer the night before its probably not going to get far is it.

Airdrops that require you to send GAS are not really an airdrop. Its worse if you have to sign up and send all your details to find out the last thing to do before you receive your tokens is to send us some GAS because our project is sooooo legit, we want small inconsequent amounts from as many idiots...suckers... new community members as we can get! Some use this option under the guise of "Anti-Spam signups"... If they want to protect themselves from spam sign-ups I'd like to protect myself from scam airdrops. So I avoid these and advise people about them as best I can so people can know before they sign up what is required.

Airdrops that ask for a novel of your information to sign up... I'm talking about needing more than the obvious ones here as most airdrops ask for names, emails, BTT, Telegram & Twitter handles and MEW addresses. I mean the ones that want your ID, or just anything you are not comfortable sharing. Then don't share it. It might not be scam but if it feels like a violation of your interests or security. Just say no.

And make sure you are running anti-virus/malware protection if you are worried about scamlinks always. And always watch out for phishing sites for MEW/ED etc.

Most likely this is written somewhere in a more official post by someone higher ranked - but the above is how I'm trying to operate right now and just remember to use an AIRDROP mew or metamask that only has a bare minimum ETH in it. Don't freely post any address that holds your life savings for someone to check out and be determined to drain.

what is the best method to know SCAM [AIRDROPs] Huh PROJECT

it is difficult to distinguish nowadays that airdrop is like a daily thunderstorm, but the airdrop scandal is mostly unclear about their project from white papers and websites.
strange again sometimes airdrop ask for donations to the members who want to join in it window like this I suggest do not join them just want to take advantage of all that because I have repeatedly joined this airdrop after in coin market they are cheaper than the amount on donation ...

almost all of them is scam and just want to take money from investors thats why they created a token .  i suggest not to invest in any of them if you are investors try to find a legit project.

That is pretty unfair for you to say. First of all, the OP is asking about AIRDROPS, not ICOs/investments. So there is no money to be taken from investors in airdrops.

Secondly, airdrops have been good and legitimate means for coins to promote themselves and ensure wide distribution. Look at Stellar Lumens and look at Byteball (GBYTE). Both are respectable altcoins with growing community, and not a single satoshi ever asked from their users. Of course, majority of new airdrops now are either useless or want your email or wallet address to try and do funny things with them. But do not let 99 bad apples ruin the 1 good apple Smiley

Some airdrops are scam so beware when you're clicking a link within their OP, might be a virus or whatsoever. Remember also if they're asking for a donation, think twice before doing it so. Recently I saw newbies creating an airdrop disguised by a donation, or a scam attempt. Be vigilant in joining an airdrops.
