Already talked about in this thread [Scam Alert] Beware of Airdrops that will drain tokens out of your address. but yeah. Scam airdrops and swap services have been on an astronomical rise.

Another one I discovered recently is where the scam token is designed to collect you gas fees once you try to transfer it, like in this case of fake XMR ERC20 tokens- https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/need-help-i-would-like-exchange-xmr-tr10-to-another-coin-5351034.

There were lots of fake tokens do credit into my address on the time i had started on using up swap plantforms which there are lots of coins credited into my address and i do found out this scheme about taking transaction  fees when you do intent to make  out some  transfer.

This is something new but if  you do really have that common sense then you would definitely had questions in mind which would result for you to make out some little search on things
then you could  really find out that theres something behind those  unusual things.

The same thing happened with EYC_ONE. You can understand by reading the following topic https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/hacking-wallet-link-5351026. Scammers target different wallets, send airdrop tokens and create Dex websites with the same name. Scammers are taking other tokens or coins from our wallet as soon as we go to swap those airdrop tokens in these DEX. We must always remember that we have no one to love except the scammers.

I'm surprised how scammers find new ways to cheat. We all complained about high fees in Ethereum, our plea was heard and we got BSC, but along with it we got a new type of scam. We are really creating a new sector in the economy and we are testing it ourselves.

“In Piggy, We Get Rich!”
If anyone is thinking of becoming an airdrop hunter then it is recommended to use a throwaway wallet which is solely used for coins of little or low value - the so called sh**coins. Use a different wallet for your main assets like Ethereum, LINK, and other high end tokens

Yes, this is very bad because there are many newbies out there in blockchain technology, and perhaps they heard about free coins from airdrops but they did not know if scammers are using it as an advantege to still their money. I think we should be careful and always keep support each other especially newbies. Thanks!

I remembered seeing over several million (fake) BFG tokens when I had way way less than that.

Thankfully I avoided it by not approving the contract. Scary.

I know of a friend who lost his money to these fraudsters all in the name of airdrop. But only had he known this, he wouldn't have lost his fund.. So this post is indeed going to safe lives..

Isn't that what we call as dusting attack?
I have seen this kind of scheme have attacked hundreds of newcomers in crypto, poor them, especially them who is interested in finding airdrops.

Thistype of scam is one of the reasons why i frown so much on airdrops. Airdrops have become largely worthless over the past few years and it almost always seem like you are running so much for just a few bucks of cash. This particular airdrop scam is very dangerous because you will almost always fall for it without even knowing it

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.
Giveaways is the common ground for scamming, people should be aware for such offers, yes there are lots of legit giveaways/airdrops but make sure it came from a legit project not from a random new token/website.

So this guy are scamming people their hard earned money by giving out free tokens as airdrop but when you try to swap the token, they take away all what's on your wallet.
Before approving transactions, make sure:

1. Always check metamask before approving or sending any transaction to ensure that it is performing as expected. Any phishing site can cause this.

2. DO NOT open such project websites if you are unsure whether or not the project is legitimate. You never know when a fresh dark secret will emerge.

3.If you want to take a chance, transfer tokens to a different wallet and use it and make sure you are using the right network / blockchain.

I almost fell for this scam, but good thing I have second thoughts. It was months ago when I did receive some airdrop tokens that I didn’t take part of. I think we’re gonna call it as “honeypot scam”.

Until now I am still receiving some “airdrop” tokens that I didn’t remember participating in both my Tronlink and Trust Wallet. But I choose to ignore them and leave it be.

I always double or triple check the smart contracts and their activity before making a conclusion.

i know this on rekt.news that some hacker send free token and poof the money was gone

Golden rule I follow: If I didn't buy it, I just pretend it doesn't exist. This doesn't help people who are out there grinding airdrops, but it is something to think about when you start taking things more serious.

yep this was true, always double check it

when project have airdrop they always tell on medium or twitter etc. if you didn't find it you better stay away and send the coin to burn address
if you know about programming you can read the contract before do the transaction

do you own research and stay safe Smiley

this is a weakness that trust wallets should solve immediately, the majority of victims are trust wallet users.  i once opened a trustwallet wallet and got a lot of spam tokens from nowhere.  i never felt that i was following their program, then i found out about the token, it turned out that it was just a fraudulent trick.

i immediately closed the wallet and never opened it again, i heard a lot of news that the token can send empty transactions and suck gas fees.  cheater trick is already brilliant, we have to be more vigilant.

Be very careful when you recieve a free token in your wallet. I won't say all airdrops are scams but most of them are. In my opinion, it is better to research these tokens before initiating any transaction. Such airdrops are quite frequent on the Tron blockchain. Recently, Tron has been notifying users when they check that these tokens are scams on the tronlink wallet. I am not sure whether Ethereum does the same.
I really want to know what's your objective while we should be very vigilant concerning free token not to enter into our wallet or stored in our wallet, is it that the coin that will enter wallet contain a microchip? Or the coin will be valueless, because the  emphasises you made concerning having free token is quite different and suspicious over having free token.. so my question is base on we need proper explanation to know the disadvantages of it.

Free tokens are mostly scams I've sent years gathering them are most are worthless today, I end up believing that I've wasted so many time on airdrops, the real airdrops are defi and Dex platforms that gives you tokens for using their platforms to trade like uniswap
Not all but all must be careful when dealing with airdrops. Ive joined countless airdrops and so far Ive been not yet scammed cause I knew if an airdrop is worth it or not. Airdrips are also good sourcr of fund if you can find some that arr profitable. There are plenty of ways on how to avoid such scam. Newbies that been victimized with this are those who arent even reading anything before executing as technical as this one.

If you haven't already, please report this and such scams in the scam section of the forum so that new members get in the groove of checking that page frequently to avoid getting scammed. There are a bunch of scams going around and a bunch of similar looking scams so people need to be aware of that before investing their money into it.

I'll share something related, but this one is where they just go all noisy and wants to take your wallet, not just the tokens in your wallet.
So I used just the unsafe method of creating wallet in MEW back in the days which is the wallet file they give you and you would use that to login into your wallet. I tried this airdrop that I can't remember the name already, because they dropped their thread after I registered with my disposable email and wallet address.
Next day, I received an email claiming to be the devs of the said project that did the airdrop. I clicked Claim Token, but didn't expect anything. Now this is where they put me into their website and they are claiming to be "in partnership with MEW" and would like me to login to my usual wallet file (the unsafe method). That is where I just closed the tab off, because I don't think MEW is in any partnership with any random projects.

Airdrops can be what someone can regret, I have stopped free giveaway when I know the bad impacts, what I know before are the scammers that will tell people that want the airdrop coin to fill in their kyc, the scammers will use the information against the people, some will not give any airdrop but fill in their kyc which can be used to scam them through many means. Scammers are getting more ways to make people foolish, they are now stealing from people wallet directly, it is good to avoid the airdrop coins.
