Assume everything is a scam, be cautious.
Using escrow is the finest solution if you feel you are trading with a scammer.
The OP was receiving was receiving messages to conduct business on various websites so escrow would not really be possible in those cases. If you are dealing with a website then you kinda need to deal directly with the site. This is one thing that makes doing business outside the forum dangerous. As mentioned above all the suggested sites are probably not sites that you want to do business on, at least if you don't want to get your money stolen.
Using escrow is the finest solution if you feel you are trading with a scammer.

Try to work with members that have a foundation of trust and previous transaction.

I would say that any newbie account trying to do business with another newbie account is a scammer.

I wouldn't trust any of them and they're all likely trying to scam you. There are plenty of trusted buyers/sellers here but for those who aren't like mark said use an escrow. You'll soon find out who's trying to scam you when you insist on using one.
